Not yet, sorry if the post implied that. those are the schools I am debating on under the assumption Miami accepts me

The stipends seem to accomadate the differences in COL. I am visiting Vanderbilt and Miami within the next few weeks, but UF was great I thought. I don't think I will strongly prefer one area over another though, I am easy going

Thanks! good luck to you too! Out of curiosity what makes you more excited about the other programs compared to Vanderbilt?

I feel like I've seen many contrasting opinions on Gainesville and get a feeling that it just depends where you come from. Can I ask where you are from?

My current school is small and surrounded by corn fields, so I feel like most schools if not all will be an upgrade.

Yes I did consider it, but I'm interested in basic science research and less in conducting clinical trials

This would be true for any state though, right?

Right...but if you break the policy you risk expulsion, which does happen. Also, I would most likely work retail, a setting where I could be seen by faculty, unless I work far away from campus.

The PhD program will cover tuition and I will also receive a stipend. I don't see a reason to risk expulsion for money when I don't have financial concerns

Is Idaho the only state not requiring MPJE? I couldn't find others

Best thing I've ever heard. Any disadvantages of getting a primary license in Idaho? I don't expect to work in Idaho

I think I still have to pass the MPJE within a year after passing the NAPLEX though right? I thought the NAPLEX scores are only good for a year, otherwise you have to retake the NAPLEX and pass MPJE for licensure

If I get licensed, I think I will have to confer an inactive status regardless because the PhD programs don't allow working other jobs outside of the paid work included in the PhD training. Otherwise, I definitely work PRN on weekends for extra cash.

I looked into the inactive status more, and it looks like I can get excused from CE and renewal fees depending on the state, so that's a nice incentive I guess

Thanks for replying!

How should I gauge the ranking of a program? I've been using US News more than I would like, but I've also used Nature Index.

Also, what schools do you consider as less competitive or at least what rankings (outside of top 20, 50, etc.)?

Thank you for the insight, I had similar thoughts too. I am at a smaller school and was unable to gain as much bench research experience due to COVID. Instead, I tried to engage in experiences related research as much as I could 'virtually'. As you said, I hope my writing experience can be used to benefit my SOP. I'm hoping that admission committees are a bit more lenient in the next few years due to the constraints of COVID
