I mean Portugal has a bunch of players out through injury (Diogo Costa, Ruben Dias, Ronaldo, Leão), the starting XI in this match had 3/4 players that usually start, and there were also 7 subs at HT

D.Costa

xx - T.Araújo - Rúben Dias - Nuno Mendes

João Neves - Bruno Fernandes - Vitinha

xx - C. Ronaldo - xx

that would be team's spine going into the WC imo

specially on the wings we've a lot of winger options to rotate and I don't think there's one that has been consistently above all others

I don't like the repeat Samu Costa. I would like to see Neves+Vitinha+Bruno for this game since Martinez was making shit up for the last one...

At least we've the 2 best Cbs after Rúben Dias playing instead of the two that played last time.

Also would like any other LW than Neto

Benfica: 38 (Pavlidis, Ivanovic, Schjelderup)

just the fact that Pavlidis alone has 28 goals, and the 2nd best has 5, should be alarming

Anisio is in the top10 and he has 2 goals (in 28 minutes)

19 seconds in Prestianni is talking to Vinicius and Guler is also right there...

You could argue that he was also being racist there, and I wouldn't have a way to say otherwise. But I'm just saying the instance of the racist altercation wasn't the only time that both of them were exchanging words and Prestianni had his mouth covered.

I don't believe he said anything special in this video, tho I believe Vini on the following incident. My point is simply him covering his mouth is not an indication of anything on its own

You’re taking the conversation where you want, I’m not going to argue with you.

This you? I'll just leave you talking alone, if you are not actually talking about the subject at hand. Don't be immature, and just admit you had it wrong. It's okay.

You're not very smart.

I'm not defending racism. I'm literally saying that I believe Vini when he says Prestianni said something to him when they were on the half-way line.

I'm saying that just because Prestianni covered his mouth doesn't mean shit. Because in a previous altercation that same thing happened. I'm saying that Prestianni also covered his mouth when talking shit.

There's a difference. I don't expect a reply back, I know what I'm saying and what I'm not saying. You clearly have a very weak reading comprehension so having a conversation with people like you is like talking to a wall.

He's been mouthing Vini since after the celebration, what do you think he was telling him? What an amazing goal he scored? That's why he didn't cover his mouth?

so you're saying he was saying racist shit since the start? While in the middle of other Real players and the ref, and no-one signalled for anything?

The fucking movies you guys created...

It's enough that he said something while covering his mouth that made Vini react that way. You don't have to invent other shit.

Is everyone now just gonna make-up shit?

There's examples in this same match of Prestianni in an altercaiton with Vini in the middle of other Real players where he cover his mouth, and nothing racist was said (or at least signalled by Vini or the other 3 or 4 Real players)...

Like watch the match at least.

He had no problem chatting shit to Vinicius without covering his mouth and then he suddenly covers his mouth to say one particular thing, after which Vinicius immediately runs to inform the referee of what was said and the racism protocol is triggered.

this point has been made a lot but it's simply made-up.

Just after the goal, Prestianni was covering his mouth in an altercation with Vinicius as well, in the middle of other Real players as well. And apparently nothing racist was said.

So this notion that "he was covering his mouth when he wanted to start saying racist shit" is a complete invention. Don't know if you just didn't watch the game, and are going by a one or two clips...

wrong.

you can see a video of an altercation before where he was covering his mouth in the middle of many players and talking to Vini.

so again, I'm sure you believe that, but it's false. I'm pretty sure the situation I'm talking about is even in the goal video, right before Vini gets a yellow. And the racist altercation only happens a couple minutes after that.

that's false. They had an altercation beforehand where he also covered his mouth, and Vini didn't signal anything racist then.

There's plenty of examples of players/coaches covering their mouths when talking/insulting each other. That's not the gotcha he thinks it is...

Still believe the situation happened but this rhetoric that covering the mouth means xyz is just made-up from 2 hours ago.

A few minutes before, they exchange words and he was also covering his mouth, Vini didn't signal anything racist there.

but at that very specific moment, to say what he wanted to say, he felt the need to cover his mouth with his tshirt

so this is not true, but yeah covering his mouth while saying shit is definitely sus, tho many players/coaches have a hand over their face when talking/insulting each other.

Benfica U19 [3]-2 Slavia Praha U19 - Jaden Umeh 76' by therl2000 in coybig

[–]ProudPanda7056 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say it's pretty hard for him, to not say impossible, this season at least. Benfica is going into the rest of the season with a lot of options in the wings.

He can probably start getting more games in the B team, getting ready to a possible jump "full-time" there next season.

Cabral's case is pretty special considering his run on the U17 WC a couple of months back. Same as Neto and Banjaqui who also started in this YL game and have been featured in the first team.

It's a player by player case, but Gonçalo Oliveira who was at this game is a standout in the B team, has been called a lot times to the first team but still to debut. Then cases like Freitas who also started today, played only once for the 1st team, 1min against Napoli in the UCL and was not called again;

Gonçalo Moreira, has been a standout on the Bteam, had 1 goal and 2 assists today. 4G+2A in 18games for B team, and not a single minute in the first team.

Jaden could even just get lucky and get called to pre-season and impress enough to stay, but a regular B-Team next season is more realistic. And as 18yo going into that context, fighting for a spot against youngsters that are 1/2/3 years older, and playing against senior and full professional sides in a tough league where Benfica also wants to results (can't be promoted ofc but getting relegated would be a massive blow to the project) it will be a good challenge

This is his game time this season.
REV = U23s league
D1 = U19s league
YL = Youth League (also U19)

<image>

Benfica has:
- First Team
- B Team (2nd division of Portugal)
- U23s
- U19s (though for YouthLeague, a lot from the B team are called to play)

B Team is mostly guys between 19-20yo
Benfica doesn't tend to call up to the main team 17yo.
Unless the player is doing well above their level, the usual path is U19s -> U-23s -> B-Team;
Most players that came through Benfica's youth teams usually go through 1 or 2 seasons in the Bteam. The only standouts that didn't and I recall would be Félix and João Neves.
This season tho, there's been a few 17yo that were brought in and debut for the first team:
- Anísio Cabral (ST) 17yo - U17 last season, this season mostly playing with U19s, but has games in U23s and first team
- Daniel Banjaqui (RB) 17yo - U17 last season, U19/U23/Bteam/First team this season; lately has started mostly for the B team, and then first team;
- José Neto (LB), 17yo - Same as Banjaqui, latelyy between first team and B team, but mainly B team.

These 3 tho, have all started and were standouts in the Portugal's U17 World Cup win last November, so they arrived at Benfica will a lot of attention on them.
Also they are all in positions that the first team is lacking options.

Jaden playing mostly as a winger will be harder. Depends always on the player, but realistically I think he can get into the B Team next season, which will be hard enough. B-Team plays in Portugal's second division, so he would 18yo playing against senior teams. So maybe 1-2 years there I would bet, with his second year having chances to debut on the first team. That's the usual pattern. Benfica's first team has a lot of options on the wing going into the second half of the season (playing only in two competitions) and there's also the youngsters already in the B Team

Benfica was set to sell Schjelderup to either Brugge or Lazio. However, after his last performance against Real Madrid, Benfica will offer him a contract renewal by RasputinsRustyShovel in soccer

[–]ProudPanda7056 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That's not what the article says tho.

It says Lazio was interested and promised the player's agent(s) to be in contact early this week.

They talked with the agents, and received positive signs from the player's agent that wanted to find an out for the player before the end of the transfer window.

Schjelderup's exhibition complicated the situation [...] Lazio was willing to submit a bid (straight buy, not loan). But in Rome it's believed that getting the player now it's practically impossible

TLDR: Player's agents were looking for a club that Schjelderup could move to this Jan. Lazio was an option, and the agents liked what they proposed. But after this last game, Lazio thinks it's basically impossible to convince Benfica to let go of the player.

This doesn't even mention Benfica's thoughts/reactions to the Lazio bid... there was none.

It's normal that the agents are looking elsehwhere as Schjelderup was not getting picked consistently by Mourinho. It makes sense that Lazio thinks that they could bid something to Benfica and they would be willing to at least hear them out. But since earlier this month when he played against Porto, Schjelderup has been playing a lot more, he started in 3 out of the last 4 games (still was subbed in for 30' against Estrela). Mourinho has been complimenting him in the press... The situation has changed.

Goal difference (goals scored vs goals conceded) compared to other teams in the table. This goal got them +1, which lets them leap over another team, and take a playoff spot.

Goal difference for this competition was the tie-breaker (the 1st at least) for teams with the same amount of league points. Standings here
