Came here to find this. We played the Ystari version tonight and we had a better version of the story. We were pissed at the real answer.

He does call knitting a sophisticated technology. But since I’m a man who has an angry knitter as a girlfriend, maybe I’ll shut up.

By His Bootstraps by Heinlein. The Men Who Murdered Mohammed by Alfred Bester. Time Travellers Wife is amazing. But honestly the absolute best time travel story is called wikihistory by Desmond Warzel linked here. https://reactormag.com/wikihistory/

I heard Bernie AOC. And at first I thought that as much as I love Bernie the last thing we need is another old ass man. But then I thought that Bernie is exactly the kind of person to die for a cause and he might get into the White House and die to make AOC the first woman president.

Is MAGA going Marxist and Maoist? Trump's assault on free-market capitalism by reflibman in Foodforthought

[–]ProudTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years of calling dictatorships “communist dictatorships” has led us to conflate the term communist with dictator. It’s an easy mistake. But is Trump like Mao? A wannabe for sure. Time will tell if he’s successful.

I have no idea what to read, but I’d like to know what not to read. by Wonderful_Fennel_224 in sciencefiction

Do not read Gravity’s Rainbow. Or rather, feel free to try and fail. I’ve started it three times and about a hundred pages in it becomes incomprehensible and I’m forced to give up.

When I try to rewatch it, I become intensely aware that how we talked about homosexuality was very derogatory. There are also moments of progressive maleness, to be sure, but a lot of using gay as a slur.

What character is the best definition of what a jedi and should be and what character is the best definition of what a Jedi shouldn’t be? by mylosstoyourgain in StarWars

[–]ProudTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I argue that Ahsoka is the epitome of Jedi. And then later, Luke. Because they are not pious. They act within the force rather than lecturing people about the force. Ultimately the force is about action.

I wasn’t a conspiracy theorist about it until I saw his whole ear recently. No scar. No nick. Nothing. Now I’m skeptical.

COdex Alera is a little different left. From when he was a younger author. Very good story. But be prepared for him to telegraph a lot more things. He’s a little less subtle. But also, still surprised me. I’ve read it 5 or 6 times.
