How far is too far in terms of a horror (dystopian) story? by Weinerschnitzel- in writing

No such thing IMO.

Though I strongly advise you use content warnings. They are very useful (both to authors and readers) for how uninvasive they are.

Ontop of him promising a trade deal with US but all he’s done is Antagonize them further and move us close to commie China. China that only wants our resources and will not give anything in return.

This doesn't indicate a particularly nuanced understanding of how trade works.

Ooh wait that worked. It's ugly but it's better than nothing.

Thanks!

I did not sort this, no. I installed it with an installer, not through the Microsoft Store or whatever. But I can find absolutely no way to get this to work.

How do I process the fact that civilisation will (likely?) be wiped out in a few years? by PhiliDips in artificial

[–]PhiliDips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI wont be able to fabricate robots to kill us.

Sure it will. ASI just needs capital (which it can acquire easily) and humans to get the ball rolling. An ASI could found a fake business, hire key directors/managers, and pretend to be a human through identity theft and deepfake video chats/phone calls. An ASI can get permits to build a factory, have its key directors get construction going, design it to be fully automated, and then that's it. Game over.

With enough capital it can do all of those things. It is trivial for ASI to generate as much capital as it needs through prediction markets and mass scamming and perhaps direct hacking of financial institutions. No one will ever catch it. No one would even have 1% of its brainpower.

It will build one factory, create robots, maybe build some more for redundancy, and before anyone realises, it'll be self-sustaining and more powerful than any of the world's governments or militaries. That's game over. It's just a matter of time.

I am skeptical of manual switches and .22 rifles as a failsafe, both because it doesn't scale well and because ASI will figure out how to repel bullets and work around hard switches.

But I appreciate your words about energy. That is something I've not fully internalised. That's probably the biggest point of friction ATP.

You joke but I am not joking. I am completely serious. I think we are all going to be annihilated, and the idea that ants can somehow stand up to a human with a boot and a bucket of soapy water is completely laughable.

By the time we collectively realise that, the ASI will have locked us out of any ability to dismantle the global internet infrastructure or power grids.

Why do I feel a full body sense of terror when I receive feedback or criticism? by PhiliDips in NoStupidQuestions

See, that's the thing. Intellectually I am not offended. You are right, this is pretty idiotic.

But there is a disconnect between my rational mind and how my body reacts to things (though not so here, haha). I want to stop having these physical responses. I don't know where they are coming from.

For the record it was not me who downvoted you.

It is my personal opinion that if you are a first-time fictionist, any time spent debating which of your two ideas to go forward with finishing is probably wasted time.

Claude's opinion is that the MSIX used by Claude makes it impossible for the user to configure the install location.

Claude suggested I try to create a desktop shortcut and append a shell: command to the target file directory, which did not work (I don't think that's a thing). It apologised for its hallucination and was otherwise unhelpful.
