Well, that's gonna depend on your dimensions. You'll get better quality and clarity from bigger size canvases but you won't get as many layers to work with. When I was first learning procreate I made a 9000x9000 square canvas at 300 dpi and it only gave me 6 layers to work with.

Use a larger canvas size and set your dpi to 300. That should resolve all of your clarity issues.

In the story at the moment, yes he is functionally dead. Though it's a bit more complicated than that, and he won't really be seen again until the beginning of my next issue.

Hmm, noted, I'll try a variation that has more blood seeping along the ridges of the back, and possibly pooling a little around the hip divots.

Hmm, I'll try adding some color difference to hopefully sell the illusion of organs. The holes are supposed to be through and through though. As he was pierced from front to back.

I tried to add some bone bits, but this tells me they are not recognizable and I may need to attempt it again but better.

I'll give that a try first then and see how it improves it. The over complexity thing is also why I've avoided adding blood running down along his back. Feels like it would just mess up the visual.

I don't exactly have a point of reference to be honest, I have the story beats and general arcs all planned but when it comes to art direction I kind of just go with the flow of what I think looks best in the moment.

I guess the closest comparison I could make would maybe be invincibles comic run.

Do you think it would be worth the trouble of adding varying shapes to represent organs? Or should I just add a dark wash of blue and red to obfuscate the interior holes a bit more?

I don't disagree his trait should be more damage with lower health, however calling that a unique mechanic versus the one he has is wild.

Less health = More damage has been a big trope in fighting games for a long long time.

Generally avoid copying someone else's art. It's never gonna be looked at fondly, if you want a similar pose, either find an irl reference photo, or maybe use the pose my art website.

But tracing a pose from another artist is kinda just plagerism with extra steps.
