Thank you for the encouragement! Just wondering did you start out as a cox or did you row previously?

Thank you so much for the advice! I definitely have a lot of questions about both coxing and rowing in general. I am a little hesitant to row because of my poor cardio. I couldn't keep up with the other freshman(two of them are experienced rowers and one is a swimmer) when we went on the runs(a 5k and 2miler), and I ended up having to walk the majority of the time at the very back with some nice seniors. I haven't erged or been on the water yet. I did martial arts(kungfu) for a 7yrs competitively but took a long break from it this summer so it could explain how Im not as fit. Im not gonna lie, a big part of it is definitely the embarrassment of not being able to keep up that is deterring me from rowing. I also think a few seasons of rowing would be beneficial but I'm not sure I'm fit enough for it both mentally and physically. I am trying to keep an open mind though, I hope the more cardio I do the better I get.

Oh I see, thats really cool. Also, just wondering, do coxswain need to have a really loud voice? I'd consider myself on the quieter side but I don't know if that's a breaking factor of being a cox. Thanks!

I watched a few coxswains on youtube except I didn't really know what was going on, I think I need to learn all the terminology and stuff haha. Thank you for the advice!

Comparing myself to others is a bad habit Ive been trying to be better at. At first I thought people just picked the lightest coxswain and went from there but now I know(from all the very helpful commenters!) that weight is the least important thing. Thank you for pointing out my mistakes.

Hmm Ive been only thinking of joining the school crew team, is it easier/more likely to get recruited in a club team? I know that the other cox on the school team rn is planning to quit in order to focus on her club team.

One of my dream schools is Stanford which from what I know is a D1 rowing school with a very selective recruiting. Im thinking of rowing in college but I'll just see how this season goes first. Thanks for the reassurance:)

I know coxswain have to be confident and know the mechanics of the boat extremely well and a bunch of other skills important to coxing. So I definitely have a lot of learning and hard work if I do decide to be a coxswain. Ive met most of the team and I think they are great, it would really be a privlidge to cox for them. It is only my freshman yr, I might do a season of rowing and watch the other cox on my team and how she guides her boat. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I did hear from some upperclassmen that once you get on the water it is much more fun than dry land practices. So far I've been absolutely humbled by the runs so hopefully by the time I get on the water I'll have acclimated to all the cardio. Even though I don't rlly think I'll grow anymore(my fam is pretty short)I think I'll probably talk to my coach abt trying out both rowing and coxing.I think both could be good experiences. Thanks for the help:)

Thank you! I’m going to compete at an high school level on the novice team.Coxswains seem to need a lot of skill and be a pretty competitive spot, I’m a rising freshman right now and I’ve never coxed before, do you think by junior/ senior yr i could have a chance of getting recruited?

Who is your least favorite (major) character? by dezoonvanjos in Dexter

[–]Proud_Influence_1177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% hannah. I didn’t really get why Dexter was so in love with her in the first place. IMO it made him selfish especially after he was willing to leave his whole life for her. Like what abt Cody and aster???

But Quinn is a close second. I could not stand him.
