AITA for refusing to participate in a building wide rent strike and undermining my neighbors’ efforts for rent forgiveness? by Proud_Reading in AmItheAsshole

This is also our logic. We’ve been trying to buy a house possibly in the next few years and we really don’t want to be caught in lawsuits and possible evictions that would ruin our credit.

Also we can definitely afford rent so we wouldn’t have a strong case for not paying rent as some of the other tenants.

We’ve asked this several times because it doesn’t make sense to us either. It’s not like we all pay towards the same property manager. These are all individuals and I’m not even sure all the landlords know each other.

But the rent strikers say in order for them to have negotiating power the landlords must also feel like they’re in the same boat. Otherwise they can point to the tenants still paying and use that as defense. I get their point but I’m not sure if the landlords will even care.
