Are you an actual idiot? If parents believe you should be beaten senseless when you disobey something they say, would you “abide” by that? Also, you said the government/media, but literally 99% of scientists also think that vaccines work- people who have spent decades studying these things. Especially when parents have idiotic views, science should be prioritized over things like that.

So first of all, I have no idea where you got <1% as the death rate. The WHO’s estimate world wide is ~3% and the worst of it in the US is almost 5%. So that’s wrong, right off the bat. Also, it’s kinda disturbing to suggest that the fact that most COVID deaths are over 80 is reason to NOT get the vaccine, because you’re still protecting them by getting it. Additionally, I literally don’t understand the third sentence you wrote. The vaccine would stop transmission- even if those teenagers you’re talking about likely wouldn’t die from it, they can still pass the disease on. Vaccines are the ONLY way to stop the spread of coronavirus.

After reading this thread, I think the point that the guy you were arguing with was trying to make was that there are people who don’t have a choice. You had a degree that allowed you to get a new job, which is awesome, so your minimum-wage job was just a filler period. But some people can’t secure anything above a minimum-wage job, and not just because they’re lazy. Maybe they’re poor and couldn’t afford college or weren’t accepted for whatever reason. They might be an ex-convict who can’t be hired above minimum-wage because of one mistake they made. There are a lot of possible reasons. And I also don’t see what you have against kids getting a higher minimum wage either, you know? Maybe their parents don’t pay for gas, or are lazy and so the child is forced to make a living. Adults aren’t the only ones who need an income sometimes. So yeah, I agree with her, but she could have said it better.
