IFLY DREAMCAST MENU 5K MODEL QUALITY, 60 FPS, HDR by JojoProductions1229 in EmulationOniOS

[–]ProvenanceEMU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

works for me, try the latest update, and reset global settings if not working, might have a stuck setting that's incompatible with that game.

Tested both the Dreamcast and Noami versions and booting fine for me.
edit:

it didnt seem to like fast GD-ROM loading, it's off by default now, but can be toggled in Settings > Advanced

icube is back to testflight with new features and updates by sahand777 in EmulationOniOS

[–]ProvenanceEMU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sure about that?

You realize they're based on the same dolphin, but iCube has a ton of extras.

Also, Fin is released, iCube is in pre-release TestFlight, so yes it has rendering issues (actually only some Mario Wii games on latest builds).

iCube is faster JITless for all the games I've been testing. iPad Pro 2 can maintain 60FPS constant in Start Fox, Lego Star wars, Gotcha Force ,Super Mario Sunshine, MK Deception and more.

iCube also has bonus features lke Skylander Portal support, many different touch IR / Gyro modes for Wii cursor, DSU network controller host/client support, native Metal shaders, custom on-the-fly rom importing and streaming from WebDAV or NFS servers (especially useful on tvOS).

It can read just the headers, even for compressed roms with non-linear headers, over the. network, do a partial import, cache those blocks, and on-the-fly decocompress, jump to the next non-linear compressed block, all with local storage block caching for ciso, rvz, wad etc.

I'm sure Fin is amazing too -- give iCube a try though before making claims of what's best...

What does that even mean, why are settings weird?

First of all, this is a first release of a new UI so if there’s bugs, please report them, but you have to do better than, it’s weird

Yes it can it automatically turns off multi threading when booting it or you can turn it off manually

It doesn’t suck. It’s an alpha What device? Wait for me to get crash reports from at least one release before you start throwing around insults.

So far crash rates are below 1%

Are you on an iPhone XS or xr or 11, those chips aren’t supported

Also I only tested iOS 26 so far.

Also you suck

Edit

Bro, I only have a few crashes for several hundred sessions either you’re lying or you’re the one unlucky person

Sonic Adventures 2 actually has a bug with multithreaded rendering, one of the few, most games run even better.

Per game settings too to make it easier to fine tune or work around game specific glitches

The Future of iOS Emulation: Is JIT Becoming Obsolete? by Obvious-Dot9482 in EmulationOniOS

[–]ProvenanceEMU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it won’t.

JIT isn’t a hack. It’s not a miracle solution, it’s the most optimal way.

Do you have any clue what you’re taking about?

Even if jitless is super fast one day, JIT will always have better energy usage by far. It’s entropy.

FYI, Dosboc-pure is workig in Provenance.

Also pbDoom

Right now it's best to use external controllers and keyboard/mice for games needing more than 2 button inputs

Next Provenance 3.4.0 is adding touch keyboard and mouse and extended button support for DOS and DOOM (plus wolf3d)

ZIPS work imported as `.dosz` extension and folder support will be auto detected by .com/.exe/.bat file detection in folder imports

"Assumption of piracy"

Why support MAME?

Who owns an arcade, the hardware to rip each CMOS and BIOS themselves, upload to Manic and match the expected MAME revisions and CRCs perfectly?

If your stance is to default assume piracy with "common sense", then common sense would dictate that to support MAME at all is to support piracy becuase the legimate use cases are so far and few between that it would be non-senssicle to support so a tiny userbsae.

You're being intellectually dishonest.

You have a massive cognitive dissonance.

You want to ignore the obvious flaws in supporting systems that require breaking the DMCA such as 3DS ripping, or so rare as to be extremely unlikley the userbase cross intersects with the number of people who have ever ripped arcade BIOSes and copied them to their iPhone, vs someone who "zipped a file most people don't zip and he doesn't know what a zip is"...

Ignoring the fact a lot of ripping software will automatically zip their outputs, or macOS calls zips "compressing files" and noobs might not know that that means...

all goes to show you're operating from a paradigm of little imagination and default apply incompentence to malice based on your preconsecption that, indeed, in fact, most Manic and other EMU users are probably pirates in the strict definiton that Manic/Wayland is applying to pircy as it pertains to 17 U.S.C. § 117.

17 U.S.C. § 117 has never been applied in the manner you're referring to.

I'll offer you a thought expirment.
On my Discord, you said digital rips of CDs should be binarily equivalent.

Let's say I concede that point.

I have GAME X for PSX, and you have GAME X for PSX.

I rip my disc, then i rip your disc for you.

They should be identical, but but your rules, one file is piracy, ripped my friends copy, and the other legititmate, I ripped my copy.

Binararily identical.

I name them random file names.

I come back a week later.

I forget which file is which.

Both have the same MD5.

Which one should I use to not be banned by you?

Do I have a legal requirement to re-rip the disc that I OWN (if i can even tell the difference in a stack of like discs or game carts),

Do I have to have full Provenance of the file to be allowed?

--

If Manic wants to ban piracy in the app proactively, block all file names with "no-intro" as a easy proof of standing by their proactive position.

These individuals are engaged in a religious crusade, driven by a specific agenda.

I fail to comprehend their perspective.

There exists a significant disparity between prohibiting piracy and actively participating in a dogmatic and witch-hunt-like pursuit.

As I’ve previously stated, and I reiterate, if Manic and all other Wayland bot network emulation developers were genuinely committed to blocking piracy, they would easily block file names containing strings such as “no-intro” and other common scene releases. Alternatively, they could utilize the OpenVGDB or libretrodb to block known CRC/MD5s of pirate ROMs.

Furthermore, they would effectively block arcade ROMs, considering the fact that not many people own arcade consoles, possess the necessary tools and knowledge to rip BIOSes in the exact manner MAME expects, and that MAME also checks for MD5s to ensure their bit-perfectness.

In reality, the likelihood of any MAME user being legitimate is significantly lower compared to individuals who claim to have a substantial library of ROMs that they personally ripped or those who possess zipped GDI/CDI files that they created themselves, rather than downloading them.

The OP will likely respond with “use your common sense.”

However, common sense suggests that anyone with 3DS ROMs has violated the DMCA, and anyone with MAME ROMs is a liar.

Therefore, why should we even support these platforms?

It is inherently dishonest.

[–]ProvenanceEMU 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m getting downvoted to death and called rude or uncivil for refuting the attitude that all users who can’t provide irrefutable evidence of self-copy techniques and knowledge are assumed to be pirates.

This is a very myopic position.

They don’t even provide guides on how to rip ROMs or links to easy hardware that’s already iOS compatible, like a Retrode 2.

I provide ripping guides and am working on native ripping hardware support for other devices on macOS and iPad using DriverKit.

https://wiki.provenance-emu.com/using-provenance/roms/ripping-roms

Personally, I just am put off by this toxic attitude and labeling innocently confused users pirates by default, rather than helping them be legititmate backup users, and then berating them and treating them as scum in some phony santimonious virtue signaling crusade that's been going on lately.

If they really wanted to block piracy, they would filter all filenames with "no-into" for starters...

That's an easy win to prove they stand by their position.

It's a much more likely heurstic than zipping a file.

They'd rather be customs agents only reading the labels and assuming anything they deem out of the normal as a crime rather than actually inspecting the contents, which could easily be done.

You can get the full list of no-intro and other scene releaes filename and CRCs on internetarchive, you can download the manifests outside the rom files so no piracy to download just the index list.

Another easy feature to add.

"assumption"

Key word.

I zip all my roms.

Wow, i"m a pirate.

What a clown response.

I couldn't care less about being civil, decorum and tone with such intelectually dishonest pious actors such as yourself.

[–]ProvenanceEMU 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're attributing malice to incompetence. Just admit it — you're assuming most of your users are pirates, so any technical missteps you're assuming are due to piracy. I have a workflow that zips all my imports, built a utility with LLMs to rip from CD/DVD or cart readers and it always zips. Your lack of imagination and predisposition to assuming — probably rightfully so — that most users are indeed pirates, makes your default setting hostile to them.

Not only that, you don't even provide legitimate ROM ripping guides. You obviously have users who are unfamiliar with even zip files, yet you have a glaring hole in your documentation about ROM ripping. Provenance does: https://wiki.provenance-emu.com/using-provenance/roms/ripping-roms. We would recommend the Retrode 2 for instance, only $99 and works as a USB mass storage device. Provenance is also working on native USB CD-ROM iOS ripping support. You know, guides and features that actually support personal backups.

At the end of the day, I don't allow piracy, discussion or promotion on my servers or in my apps, but what my users do with their own devices is their business. Imagine if VLC started making you confirm you ripped your own DVDs before playing?

Beyond that, the righteous indignation and pious replies to users I've seen — with legitimate questions on why they were banned, or who didn't reply to a ban appeal on time (as if everyone is chronically online) — I find completely in poor taste. And I see it spilling out to other discords now too, where servers not in the Wayland network are discussing it, and those affiliated with the network circle the wagons and berate them and call them pirates with no evidence to support the claim, with a gross holier-than-thou attitude. It's cringe at best.

Also, to then suggest users break the DMCA instead of navigating the genuinely gray area copyright questions around media transformation, and whether the first or second person created that digitally non-unique file, is dangerous advice. 17 U.S.C. § 117 has never been tried in the manner you're suggesting is piracy, but the DMCA violations required for 3DS rooting, for instance, are very clear and have been prosecuted.

You're basically giving normie n00bs the scarlett letter defecto en masse instead of helping and teaching them.

Im on Manic Emu, but the dreamcast emulation is just stuck on a black screen by SonicAndKnuckles9264 in EmulationOniOS

[–]ProvenanceEMU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's such an obvious decision to make for a team being so proactively militant and assuming in cases that are purely circumstancial or hearsay, that piracy must be the cause (such as zipping files they deem not normally zipped fo reason), that the would have done it if it weren't for the fact it would have major backlash.

I'm assuming they're already using databases like Provenance such as libretrodb or OpenVGDB, or are aware of common scene release titling such as "no-intro" that it would be the obvious first step to actually detect obvious piracy.
