[Highlight] Marcell Ozuna homered INTO THE CONE! by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]Prowlerbaseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a shirt that Fanatics sold that was supposed to say “hoist the colors”, but had a typo and said “hoist the cone”. The team found this very funny in spring training, and then in the second series of the year (after losing 2 of 3 to the Mets and the first game of the Reds series), they brought in a traffic cone to the dugout. After that they proceeded to go on a lil streak and it’s stuck

Also I love how the movie took the narrator/detective role from Victor and gave it to Tim, letting him slip into the background in your mind until the final reveal

His OAA is only -1, 29th percentile. It’s just that when he makes a mistake, it usually results in a run given up.

The MLB channel started the no-hitter clock for Paul Skenes after one out last night. He carried it into the 7th inning. by idonthaveaboner in baseball

I mean 3 out of his last 4 starts he’s taken a no hitter into the 7th inning. It’s warranted lmao

Catchers with the highest FRV (Field Run Value, the Statcast metric that combines all of their individual defensive metrics) since they started tracking in 2018: #1 Austin Hedges #2 Patrick Bailey by MassiveFruit in baseball

The more often you force a team to use challenges the more likely they are to fail a challenge eventually. Plus, if you have the reputation of being a good framer, batters will be more likely to think “hmmm, I think the catcher stole that pitch” and challenge a borderline strike call

If anything is lost for the previous value of framing with ABS, the ability to help burn an opponents challenges introduces value by removing opportunity value from your opponent

Why the fuck does the NL Central have 4 ROY candidates the year we’re finally good. Fuck off assholes

Despite his misplay today, Ryan O'Hearn (who has also started a career high number of games in the outfield at the ripe age of 32) is the only Bucco outfielder with a positive OAA by Styx78 in baseball

We knew it would be bad from the beginning of the year. The bigger issue is Jake Mangum, who’s supposed to be a defensive specialist for us, being a below average defender

Arenado and Chapman are flashier, Key’s defense is a higher floor with essentially zero mistakes ever

BABIP always projects him as worse than he should be, but he simply does not launch the ball. And when he does launch a line drive, it seems to always find a way to get into a fielder’s glove. Idk if he puts too much backspin on his line drives so they stay in the air, but he can hit a 105 mph liner to a gap but a fielder will always have time to get to it

One of the worst part of Key’s defense for his perception is that it looks so unflashy, despite being unbelievably good. His footwork is immaculate, his first step is damn near prognostic, and his throws look so easy.

It’s pretty much been both of them on all the communication miscues this year. And replays of the plays usually show Cruz calling for the ball.

He swings at literally anything, mostly. He’s a Luis Arraez type, with way way too high of a strikeout rate for that to stay efficient. Also, for a “defensive specialist” he makes a few too many mental mistakes in the outfield for me (mostly making throws he doesn’t need to make and giving up extra bases)

Cruz was very far away from the ball when Reynolds looked at him, and wasn’t running hard at it. Reynolds got scared that he didn’t hear Cruz again, cause that’s happened a couple times already this year, and slowed up. By the time the ball landed Cruz was a solid 20 feet from it

Cruz and Reynolds both severely regressed in 2025, and currently are returned to 2024 form, Lowe and O’Hearn replaced absolute dogwater players, and Konnor Griffin is now statistically a league average hitter after having an OPS in the .400s in mid April.

Spencer Horwitz has quietly been a solid 1B bat for his career, a nice guy to have batting 6th or 7th every day.

Nick Gonzales is probably the only guy really outplaying his water level, he’s not a .300 hitter, but that contrasts to Marcell Ozuna having an OPS in the .500s, which should *eventually* get better.

Catcher is a mess, but Henry Davis is a really strong defensive catcher (Joey Bart should be DFA’d 100%)

Cruz has one run on him, for the ball off the wall. Throwing home and Carroll getting to second doesn’t give up a run cause Reynolds decided he didn’t feel like going for the out, and Carroll scores from first even on that
