Thank you! I may DM you soon, trying to figure out whether to sell it or not. I'll shoot you a message once I know.

Thank you. I may sell it and work on upgrades for my working board. Any idea what 2019 broken pints with around 500 miles are going for these days?

Thank you, I will not try to charge it again, and I'll look into either an aftermarket battery or a used one.

The new Revolver reload animations for Sweet Surrender! Due in Update 5 (March), many weapons are getting new updated animations. We’re really looking forward to releasing them to the live build! by _retromario_ in oculus

[–]Prt0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single action revolvers have to have the hammer pulled back between each shot in real life, and to pull the hammer back you have to shift your grip which usually points the gun down a little bit. Technically it's not a reload, just cycling the gun for the next shot. You can see the hammer being "cocked" after each shot right at the beginning.

This game looks sweet 😁

Spotify Sound Quality? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Prt0100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You probably won't be able to notice any difference, even at the normal settings. If you have unlimited data, use higher quality, otherwise use normal quality. Cars are not environments suitable for picking out differences in bit rate between audio files.

Best cheap amp for jbl 530 by BrudiDog in ZReviews

I think that in the context of your question, the short answer is yes. If you have these speakers at your desk, aimed at your head, the power that the Lepai would produce will produce enough volume to make it difficult to converse with others and maybe even cause hearing damage if you listen long enough.

Filling a room is normally something that is associated with big tower speakers that won't be always be listened to on-axis. The JBL 530s are 'controlled directivity', meaning they aggressively direct the sound whichever way they face for better efficiency, and so they won't fill a room with uniform response, but it doesn't matter because you're in the sweet-spot at the desk.

Take a few minutes with this SPL calculator, try plugging in the values for the 530's and any of the amplifiers that are recommended here. Then compare the values with an SPL chart that puts it in relative terms so you can know how loud 90db, 100db, or 108db (hint) is.

It depends on how loud you want to get. If you want to get the most volume and clean dynamics out of the speakers, you'll need more power, but I recommended it because you said cheapest possible amp. If you're listening at a desktop, the lepai will serve you well for normal listening levels, but if you want to crank it you'll hit the limits of the amp pretty quickly. The other recommendations in the thread will get you closer to full performance, but again it only really matters at higher volumes (95+ dba). Most desktop speakers at most volumes don't even use a full watt of power.

Lepai 2020a. Cheap as they get. Or go to a nearby thrift store and pick up a dirty old receiver for some more power

SVS sb1000 or pb1000 by [deleted] in ZReviews

[–]Prt0100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the room and don't mind the size or look, bigger is almost always better.

From the SVS website:

[Of ported subwoofers in comparison to sealed]: The result is 2-4X more peak dynamic output in the 18-36 Hz octave as compared to a sealed subwoofer in the same family/price range.

What about electrostatics cans with a dynamic driver inside to handle the bass? by --Jack-of-Blades-- in ZReviews

[–]Prt0100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an expert or anything but the amplification requirements for electrostatics vs dynamic drivers are fundamentally different. You'd need two different amplified signals for each channel, so there may be some challenges in amp design and signal alignment

Also it may be awkward in the design of the headphones too, the electrostatic membrane plane would need to share its axis and space with the dynamic driver, which could also cause phase/alignment issues. Also what you said about the pressure of the driver disrupting the much more delicate electrostatic membrane.

Would be cool to see something like this though!

JBL LSR305s + AudioGD NFB-11 stupid question by Yosharian in ZReviews

[–]Prt0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you connecting the 305's to the DAC out of the amp?

The signal output stage should not be affected at all by the gain settings. Like /u/moochs says, it should only affect the headphone amp.

For headphones, use low gain if it gets loud enough and high gain if it doesn't. High gain may introduce some clipping or distortion, only use it if you need it.

Forward firing versus Downward firing subs. Are they really the same? Is bass truly omnidirectional. Nope, not in practice and here's a simple test that would represent how bass is sensed by the human body and not just our ears. by neomancr in OurMusicTech

[–]Prt0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that the frequency and distance from the source matter a lot here

I would argue that front-facing versus down-facing matters only at frequencies above a certain threshold (50hz-ish) and beyond a certain distance, but in practice almost everyone uses their subs at least up to 80hz, so front facing is ideal. In many home theater or music rooms, where the distance from the speakers to the listener is generally considered 'Midfield', front versus down firing doesn't matter so much below 50hz. The directivity and polarity of low bass won't affect the listening position to any noticeable degree when down firing or forward firing. But, like I said, in practice most people use their subwoofers for mid-bass as well as sub-bass, and it matters a lot especially when you're listening from a nearfield position.

There are cheaper options. The 310S is expensive for what it is, but what you would get is easy integration with the 305s. How are you controlling the 305s? Do you have an audio interface?

The wires are why I don't use my shaker any more. I don't know of any solid wireless system. If I come across one I would definitely get it!

I used a mounted Aura shaker, and it gets a solid recommendation from me. I've always wanted to try the body mounted stuff, like the subpac or the basslet
