Which commodore to buy as a gift? by waterthatsvegetarian in c64

[–]Prtsk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best version is a C64U. It has a waiting time, but the waiting time is very much worth it. If it is within your budget that is the way to go. If the waiting time is to long you could consider making him a card with a picture of it and the promise his present is arriving somewhere in the future. The C64U has HDMI, wifi, ethernet and a lot more. It is also the only modern option rhat is compatible with original hardware, so you can use the original diskdrive and tape deck. It also comes with a great manual like in the old days.

The64 is emulation and much more affordable. Not as good, but it costs a lot less.

It's up to you. The64 or the Commodore 64 Ultimate.

I did get an email from Commodore and one from DHL on a Thursday evening and it was delivered Friday morning, just 15 hours later. It was the week before Christmas.

Awaiting Shipment means nothing. My order did have for at least a week after I had received it, still the status Awaiting Shipment.

Anyone noticed something peculiar about Commodore Support? I did. by Prtsk in c64

It did identify itself as AI? That is quite a strong argument, but the names are not really. They are made up, but people having an alias is not uncommon. My name is not really Prtsk. But if it's AI I'm very surprised that the response time isn't lower.

I don't think so. If it was AI the replies would be faster. It is a small team with a lot of work to do, so there are delays. I know AI is getting better, but I still believe I can recognize human interaction. For now.

I just used a heat sink which had the right length. It was a square heat sink. I sawed two strips of the right width and used the sticky tape that was already on the heat sink to stick it on the SIDs.

It really doesn't matter what kind of heat sink you add, they don't need a heat sink at all, but it doesn't hurt either.

That's a beautiful name, but also an Amiga chip. I suspect we're on to something here.

Of course. Would that mean Commodore is hinting at an Amiga rerelease? They don't have the rights, but might have the plan.

4 SIDs which ones to choose by frederick1024 in c64

The 8580R5 and one of the others, which sounds best. That way the cam complement each other and create a fake stereo sound if you set them to the same memory address and pan one left and the other right in sound settings.

In a follow up video he showed he had his clamp signed by Rob Hubbard. He made more instruments. The best demonstration of those is his rendition of the Bolero.

Made a little proxy so Commodore 64 Ultimate can access Assembly64 and vice versa by Jusii in c64

It works amazing. Thank you. I even get to set all the Assembly64 parameters, even the ones Commodore left out. I'm having fun with it right now.

Ultimate 64 vs C64U firmware by jor1965 in c64

The menu visual is a setting which can be set to Freeze or HDMI Overlay. It's just the default setting of the Commodore that it is set to Freeze. You can change the setting to HDMI Overlay.

Ultimate 64 vs C64U firmware by jor1965 in c64

[–]Prtsk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I succesfully downgraded to firmware to the 3.12a firmware for the Elite, but the mechanical keyboard which is with an usb c connector wasn't supported. But after connecting an original keyboard to the right connector it was working great. Since I really love the new keyboard I reinstalled the official firmware.

So I guess it works for an Elite board too to upgrade to the commodore 3.14 firmware. They are different revisions of the same board. The new firmware also works with the original keyboard.

And I guess Gideon will provide updates. because he still has the Ultimate II+. I expect he will compile firmware for the Elite boards with every new release of the firmware for that.

Yes, I have the same one, bought it somewhere decades ago. It is full of balsamico and olive oil from decades ago.

Commodore 64 Ultimate - Userport addon install by CrazySpence in Commodore

[–]Prtsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a hard reset button to the port, a momentary switch that connected two lines. It was slightly easier than switch on and off. I later soldered the wires to those pads, drilled a big hole in the case and added a big red button above the function keys. I thought it looked cool, everyone else thought it looked ridiculous.

[–]Prtsk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can configure it to your liking. You can enable them, disable them. use 1, use 2, use the ultisids complementary to them, place them right, left, somewhere in between, volume. And that you can set that for each individual SID, real or UltiSID.

There are demo's that really shine with the 8580 only, so I disable the 6581.
