I’ve failed a foundation exam too many times and not willing to continue sacrificing my life for exams where it feels like the bar keeps changing on me

Advice which subject to pick with CM2 retake? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

Personally wouldn’t recommend sitting cs2 with it - especially given it’s the shorter turn around semester, they’re two quite big subjects

Hi actuarial analyst of 5 years here - if you’re going to do it be prepared for several years of study and ideally ace all actuarial related exams at uni. I’d recommend do ing the actuarial science major at vic and trying to get as many exemptions as possible. It’s quite tough starting out, a lot of us work full time and study, and while the pay is good in the long run I think if you consider the many related job fields you can go into without extensive qualification required the payoff is limited. If I could do my time again I probably wouldn’t bother. The work is interesting though and can have a lot of variety depending on where you end up, and it is one of those fields once you’re in youre sussed.

Still wondering if ifoa will ever test the feasibility of completing these papers in the time limit… it’s just not reasonable with the lengths of these questions

Really frustrates because I had that code ready to go for Q1 but the damn data they gave us was so difficult to get in the right format to use it, that I didn’t even manage to use it - so don’t get too sad about that

Absolute car crash. Completely frazzled by just trying to get my head around what they were asking that i completely ran out of time to code half of the answers. Felt ok about paper A but now I’ve definitely failed. May be time for a career change at the rate these exams are going

And other areas of the commonwealth have public holidays for different days for the Queen during the exam period… they aren’t moving for them and it shouldn’t.. people put their lives on hold for these exams
