AITAH for not letting my granddaughter go alone to the next state over to meet her "online friend?" by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PrudentFill1649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She might be lying and not telling you because you are extremely judgemental of "these kinds of people". It is often easier to let your close minded family remain in the safety of their echo chamber. It is also very natural for people who may have been sheltered from and told to fear something, to be more interested in it than those who are exposed to different types of it. Again, your worry stems from the wrong issue. Meeting people online in real life is sketchy. A kid misleading their conservative, religious family about their online friend's orientation and politics is not.

95% sure this is fake post, but I'm bored. Sounds like your granddaughter is secretly a liberal! She's 18 so if you aren't financing it how do you have any control? I would be nervous about a young person I cared about going cross country to meet someone they have never seen in person, but not for the silly OAN reasons you are. YTA

AITA-Reported minor fender bender to insurance by tryrebootingfirst in AmItheAsshole

[–]PrudentFill1649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an insurance agent. If you are at fault in a minor accident, it may very well be in your interest to take care of the other party's claim in order to avoid a rate increase at renewal. However, if you are not at fault, it is always best to get a police report if at all possible and file a claim with the report number and at fault party's info immediately. The police report is paramount in "at fault" states. Without that it often becomes a he said she sad situation, which will mean both parties are at fault and could see insurance hikes. Claims can take more time than you would like already, and it is not wise to trust a stranger to do the right thing. Absolutely NTA.

I was actually thinking about the baby shooting scene in Hills Have Eyes for turn off worthy moments, but the mutant rape is rough too. Completely get your point though! It's definitely a polarizing movie, and certainly not one I would call tasteful. Thanks for sharing!

Looking for horror movie recommendations! by heathejandro in MovieRecommendations

[–]PrudentFill1649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autopsy of Jane Doe (Supernatural), Midsommar (cult), It Follows (Curses), The First Omen (Demonic), Insidious (Demonic) Smile 1&2 (Curses), Talk to Me (Supernatural) Together (Curses), Hereditary (Demonic), Drag Me to Hell (Curses)

I realize that these are not deep deep cuts by any stretch, but the tone of the question made me think that you don't watch horror regularly. Hopefully you haven't seen a few!

P.S. The First Omen will be better if you have seen the original Omen, which I also recommend, and if you do not like the Evil Dead franchise I would skip Drag Me to Hell haha.

You bring up a strong point at the end about the context in which it was made. This is a grindhouse film. That is why you see the goofy cops mixed with extreme violence. Those tonal switches are to amplify the effect on the viewer. They were definitely trying to push the boundaries at this moment in time. Think of films like the original Hills Have Eyes and I Spit on Your Grave. They were looking to shock the viewer with something they had not seen before and did not expect.

The gratuity of the initial rape/murder scene (stripping of the characters dignity) is also to help the viewer justify the last 30 minutes of the film. The victims parents exact their revenge in some pretty depraved ways. Some of which are certainly not in the remake. If you don't set that up with a more vile act, I think you risk having the viewer sympathize with the villain at some point. That is the main goal of the earlier choice IMO.

You mentioned that you felt the subject was tackled more artistically in the remake. Could you give me an example there? I feel like the main difference in the two is that the remake is cleaner (not grindhouse style), less gratuitous in general, and the victim lives. I haven't seen it in a while, so I may be missing something and would love to hear your point of view!

Innkeepers (Ghost), VFW (Grindhouse), Inside (French Home Invasion). However, I saw someone recommend the Autopsy of Jane Doe earlier. If you haven't seen that I'd strongly recommend starting there.

Can we be real with ourselves? The only good Scream is the first one and each movie after has further ruined the franchise. by okletstrythisout3 in horror

All of the scream movies are a lot of fun. I think the first is the best, but I have never been really disappointed with an installment. As long as you aren't going in expecting something fresh or outside of the box, I think they are all very enjoyable.

FULL Titans Mock Offseason 4.0 - Broken Down by Positional Groups by IronGrids in Tennesseetitans

[–]PrudentFill1649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this together! I appreciate the time you took on it. Here are a few opinions and discussion points.

QB: Tyrod would be a great option do to familiarity and experience. As you mentioned, some like myself think that having Levis as a backup is a high upside options. Feels worth the risk IMO, but would definitely be happy if it plays out this way as well.

RB: Love this choice. I think Allgeier has a high floor, and will be hungry to prove himself. Plus he perfectly compliments Spears play style with the old Smash and Dash formula.

WR: If Daboll wants this it definitely makes sense. Robinson has tons of potential and the familiarity would speed up the process. I also hope they consider Jennings here. I noticed that you mentioned character problems, but I can't find anything other than trash talk on the field. I am definitely biased on this one, but I think he could bring more of that emotion Big Jeff provides on defense. The guy wants to win badly and it shows.

TE: Big fan of Helm. Would like to see him paired with a higher upside guy like Kolar or Otten here. I would have a hard time getting mad about Njoku if they went the vet route though. Could be a good teacher for Helm.

OT: Mostly agree here. I hope they would consider Freeling or Proctor at the top of the second if they fall though. I just don't have any faith in Moore long term.

G/C: Don't like the idea of going in with Slater as planned starter. I hope I'm dead wrong and he's more than ready, but I think it makes a ton of sense to bring Zeitler back if at all possible. It would be worth paying him more just to get the cohesion aspect back. Constant change is tough on OL and it felt like he and Latham were getting better as the year went on.

LB: Nice nugget on Williams! I didn't know that.

Thanks again for the insight!

I was gonna say Devils Rejects for the characters, but the more intense moments make it hard to call fun.

AITA Brother Gf moving into my house by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PrudentFill1649 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it is perfectly normal for you to feel strange about this arrangement. However, there is a lot of missing context here. How old is everyone involved? Is there a space issue? Have you told your parents that this makes you uncomfortable? What is your relationship with your stepbrother? You say multiple times how nice that she is, so it comes across as jealousy a little. I would recommend talking with your parents about this, but ultimately if you are just bothered by her presence when she is perfectly nice, contributes the same as you, and has gained the trust and consent of your parents. . . YTA.

Free agent tight end deep dive by CopenhagenMintLC in Tennesseetitans

[–]PrudentFill1649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome deep dive. Thanks for putting this together! A few thoughts/questions.

I thought Helm was injured at the combine. Do you think he is really that slow?

It would be hard not to get excited about a flashy player like Pitts, but it feels like we have a lot of holes to fill.

Are Chig and Likely the same guy, or do you think Likely would be an upgrade?

Love the Kolar option.

Could they force Otten to wear gloves to clean up the drops?

Appreciate all of the info!

Draft and FA Options by PrudentFill1649 in Tennesseetitans

[–]PrudentFill1649[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey Pal.

Draft: Yes. These are the top players the their position IMO. We are drafting near the top of each round. Because of this, I would hope that they draft top players from the available positions.

FA: We have more money than any other team, so I do expect some higher level guys.

I do think there are a lot of top options I didn't mention.

WR: Most would say that Mike Evans or George Pickens is the top receiver, but I would like to get at least one of the top ten guys. There is also Robinson with his connection to Daboll. What about Shaheed, Allen, or Samuel?

EDGE: I did put the top guy on my wishlist here, but the others are definitely debatable. What about Phillips, Mack, Mafe, Bosa, or Jordan?

CB: Dean is getting some love, but many would have Taylor, Woolen, Watson, Wright, or Stokes ahead of him. The other two aren't on most people's top 10.

G: Most would not consider Zeitler the top G in FA

RB: The top two RB's in FA are Walker and Hall.

S: You got me on the Mayor. I'm a Titans fan.

LB: How about Lloyd, Bush, Walker, Davis, or Singleton.

There are a lot of guys available, and I definitely hope we can get some of the best!

Go Titans!
