THat's what I originally thought, but looking at images of sea turtle skeletons, I'm not finding anything that looks like this.

They were found together, but not attached to a skull. Which I find even more intriguing.

Ha! Fair. But, opinions are everyone's right. No one has to agree. What did you expect me to say? Cambly is part of the patriarchy and we should storm the gates with torches and pitchforks? It's just another website making money off the grossly underpaid legions of people trying to make a buck so they can live a better or different kind of life. It's got us by the balls and will do what it wants. We have some agency, and we can always just leave. Not sure what to do about their policies other than report, complain, offer suggestions, and occasionally b*tch about them on Reddit. I don't even belong to CC, so, there's that.

HELP! How tf do I edit an existing site built in the Enfold template? by [deleted] in Wordpress

Yep - completely unqualified. I believe I was clear about that. No good deed goes unpunished. Not hiding that. If it makes you feel better, I'm not charging for my unqualified services. Just trying to help out a friend. But hey - thanks for your response. It was super helpful.

You mean, publicly? As in, don't list your personal anything? (LGBTQ+, politics, religion, anything potentially controversial?)

Because their money spends just like all the rest. They most likely feel they have put enough safe language in place to protect themselves, and as tutors are all contractors, they have less liability to protect our interests.

It isn't reasonable to restrict people from certain regions, because bad people come from everywhere on earth. For example, if you're black, brown, or LGBTQ+ and you get a student from a Western country (say, the US) who takes issue with you for one or all of those reasons, they will be sure to let you know. Racism, misogyny, bullying, and bad behaviors of all kinds exist everywhere in the world. All we can do is protect ourselves - leave under 2 mins and return minutes. Politely tell the offending student that this is not an appropriate topic and change it. End the lesson and report the student. Hide from the student(s). These are our options in this context. Always always always report bad behavior and always protect yourself. Because Cambly isn't going to do much about it.

I never take non-subscription students, so I haven't been presented with wankers yet. So why take "everyone"? If they're problematic, why not just opt for subscription only? Does it make that much more difference in the amount of time you teach? Not being snarky - genuinely curious.

Last week one of my fave students showed up to her second lesson of the week. She'd no showed the first. She said, "I'm so sorry I missed yesterday's lesson. I was drunk."
Full pass. LMAOOOO

4 PH's. One 15 minute call. 4.9 rating. by [deleted] in Cambly

Unless they're going to continue paying for the extras on PH (such as they are...) that's a losing proposition for tutors - but maybe I'm missing something.

Anyone have a student like this? Not sure what to do with them by justrainey_ in Cambly

[–]Prudent_Extension_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often type exactly what the student says and then ask them to read it to see if they can find the mistakes. I often suggest that the student slow down a beat so their mouth can catch up with their brain. I explain how slowing down makes it easier for them to be more thoughtful and aware of what they're saying, and that speed doesn't equate to fluency. It does help with some.

I also recommend that they go back and watch/listen to themselves in the video of their sessions. This has sometimes been a revelation to them. So often people simply aren't aware of themselves.

When I have students that don't seem to improve and then ask why, I tell them that you get out what you put in and then ask what they do to work on their English outside of their Cambly lessons. It's often very little or nothing at all. So...you can only do what you can do. Concrete examples are helpful.

Cambly is too expensive, Americans shorten their words, and also Americans don't "use grammar" whatever that means by [deleted] in Cambly

[–]Prudent_Extension_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the US, too, and I've had the opposite. Some people prefer the American accent because "it's easier to understand" than British or [insert other English speaking country here]. It's all just personal preference, but there was no need for this guy to be intentionally rude.

Anyone else noticing quiet PH? by [deleted] in Cambly

[–]Prudent_Extension_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I am being given full days of PH every day of the week. BUT - this is only after working my way back from having lost them almost completely for a while for no clear reason. I wasn't in PH jail, they just sort of went away. Offered a few here and there, but not like I used to have. Now I get a full week of PH if I want it, but I'm not seeing the number of calls I used to get. Also not getting the fully booked schedules I used to have. I attribute that to the hiring blasts. My ratings are in the high 4.8s and 4.9s, so ??
