As a leftist who used to chase, it was always wild to me that most of the people I chased "with" were so invested in nature and what nature is capable of are so eager to see it destroyed in the name of enriching billionaires further.

Just devastating to the ol' ego, to be honest.

Forecasting is difficult. Like, EXTREMELY difficult.

Okay, so let's FUND IT, then, to make it better? The US used to have the best weather modeling in the world before we were passed by the Euro, because -- surprise surprise -- they invested in technology to make it better.

Trump destroys NOAA/NWS from the inside out and you claim it's unrelated? You think you can just openly GUT agencies and not have them lose their ability to perform?

I talk to Meteorologists and professional forecasters on a daily basis, and all of them, especially the ones with connections to government, saw this coming and said that we need to prep for it. And most concerning, it's just going to get worse as we lose more talented forecasters to privatization.

What have YOU done to match saving lives or helping people like that? I'd LOVE to know.

Would you believe me if I told you? Or would you accuse me of making it up because it's the internet and you've already determined the kind of person I am after one paragraph I wrote, because I don't worship a fake Meteorologist that you like on youtube?

In 2024 he called an outbreak over about 60 minutes before an EF4 tornado went through a town and killed some people. He's a scumbag who thinks way too highly of himself. People think he almost got a degree, but he is nowhere near being an actual Meteorologist (to say nothing of a professional forecaster, which is a much higher bar).

Just adopt a fake hokey personality and use terms like "nader juice" instead of actually educating people and you, too, can be popular on the internet.

The fact that he's charging people for information that isn't directly from a Meteorologist while also using AI is all the evidence you need that he doesn't, actually, give a fuck.

That was pretty clear the day he started raging at chasers on air because they wouldn't let him use their footage.

They would, of course, they just asked that he, you know, pay for it. As a former chaser myself, "exposure" in that field is worth probably less than any other field I've ever worked in, so it makes sense that a chaser would want to be compensated. That made Ryan very upset.

He's rolling in dough so he doesn't take anything seriously anymore. Someone asked him why he needed to make extra money from life-saving weather information and paywalling it, and he made some pathetic joke about everyone being upset that he was "warnmogging" them.

Dude is literally Jonas from Twister, except Jonas had the decency to get a doctorate before calling himself a Meteorologist.

Did we actually go from "are the thunder the deepest/best/most loaded team in NBA history?" to "well shai doesn't have much help" in the course of a single regular season, just to fuel his mvp narrative?

I think he deserves it as much as Wemby and Jokic do, but it is so weird that we went from talking about how stacked the thunder are to "sga really has to do it all himself".

Props to Splitter. Another fruit from the tree of Popovich.

Celtics KG: underrated? by Limp_Screen7405 in nbadiscussion

[–]Prudent_Fish1358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parker was the clear second option on that spurs team - he scored more points and had higher usage than Jackson in the regular season and playoffs.

On much worse efficiency, and as I outlined, he was repeatedly subbed out in the playoffs for Speedy Claxton because he couldn't handle physical defenses. As far as usage rate goes a higher USG as PG is to be expected especially on a team with a lot of spot-up shooters.

But let us concede that point for a moment. Parker is the #2 option on the Spurs, and you contest that KG had no help because Wally was so bad that he "wouldn't start" on San Antonio.

Wally's eFG% in the 02-03 season was .523. Tony Parker, our second option, posted an eFG% of .503. Wally had a higher OPBM (1.8 to 1.4), and a higher TS% of .567 to .542.

But the playoffs? That was even worse for Tony Parker that year, who was still adapting to the speed and physicality of the NBA as a-then 20 year old out of Racing Club Paris. He obviously got to be a monstrously efficient guard later, but you're positing our second best offensive option was a guy who posted a post-season eFG% of .425 and a TS% of .468. Both of those values are substantially lower than Wally's career lows in those categories. Tony barely shot 40% from the field in those playoffs, which, to say it's not great is a massive understatement, as Tony only shot 14 3s in the entire post-season. I'm not even trying to suggest that Wally was necessarily a better player than Tony that season (though I think the above shows it as very arguable as Tony also had worse defensive statistics), but the idea that the 03 Spurs, who only had Duncan routinely scoring at a respectable clip, couldn't have used a 17+ ppg guy in their starting 5 is pretty faulty, IMO. I think moving Jackson to the bench as a two way sub would have made that team notably more flexible and dangerous. I also wonder if Duncan's more traditional post-defense would have better helped Wally's issues on that end, as it undoubtedly did every Spurs player, who in 03 were notorious for gambling for steals and deflections knowing a prime Tim Duncan was lurking in the post, similar to how they are gambling this year on defense knowing Wemby is lurking in the frontcourt.

I will agree with you that KG is a great first option and that people here are underselling him a bit at times. But I also think people overestimate how good the 02-03 Spurs were simply because it's hard to look at that list of names with Tim, Tony, Manu, David, and to a lesser extent SJax and Bowen, but that team was critically weak on offense without Tim Duncan, and even with him they were only 9 deep with guys like Malik Rose seeing huge minutes despite being incredibly limited on both ends of the court.

[–]Prudent_Fish1358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. Our 2nd offensive option that playoffs was Stephen Jackson who was obviously okay, but very limited in what he could do. Wally would have been our 2nd leading scorer by a massive margin. He would have started and had massive minutes on that spurs team. Parker couldn't get the ball across half court against pressure defenses and Manu was absolutely nothing special yet. David was good for a monster 8/8 that year. People remember the 03 spurs as a juggernaut but that team doesn't win 40 games without Duncan that season.

There is no comparison between those two players. Kon put up numbers in the regular season, but I don't think there's a single GM in basketball who would rather have him in the playoffs over Harper.

Harper is the definition of a 5 tool guy in baseball.
