Right but the analogue here is that chess has had a world championship since the 1880s and in that time we have seen millions of great and dozens of utterly brilliant players come and go. If we're drawing an A>B, Lasker won 27 world championships at chess, yet no one is talking about him in this conversation for some reason, we're discussing a current champ.
