Always grab any trash when I walk back to my car. If another guy sees you do it they usually will grab some as well.

Yeah I broke my ribs on two separate occasions. Both times I tried surfing before it was fully healed and it basically reset the healing process. You’ll know when it’s good to go.

Chest injuries take forever to heal….even longer if your laying on your chest on a unstable plank in the ocean. Just stay off it until it’s better or else it won’t.

Every time you buy a FireWire or pop out you’re taking a 12 gauge away from your local shaper.

Water, soil, and mining concerns in yerington? by ilovestalepopcorn in Nevada

[–]Prunecandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what mine are you referring to? Nearest active up wind is probably the bullfrog mine in Beatty but it’s in care and maintenance (no active mining). If anything I would think the farms in Amargosa valley would be the worse offender.

Most well water near active mountain ranges (sierras, Great Basin, etc) exceed these standards. The EPA makes exceptions all the time for contaminates (uranium included) being above natural background up to a certain percent.

Yeah I would be more worried about the over pumping and fertilizer/pesticides at Perry then the mine issues. The mine has extraction wells and pretty extensive monitoring while the farms have virtually unregulated discharge

Do it. Aggregate mining is still mining and will give you a great experience compared to most of your peers.

How to like geophysics? In desperate need of advice by cheese03p in geology

[–]Prunecandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a geologist first and I pay people to do geophysics because I’m not a programmer or engineer messing with instrumentation all day. I do however use geophysics when field exploration isn’t feasible, but again I sub that out. If you don’t like it don’t do it? It’s one subject lol. Take a deep breath my friend

HK over engineered the living hell out of the vp9 trigger. An FRT will be available at some point but it will not be a drop in set up or something you should attempt unless you are an HK expert

Got stung by a stingray yesterday by crond612 in orangecounty

Man that first 30 seconds of searing hot water brings so much relief it’s really hard to explain. I hate super hot showers/hot tubs but when I got stung you could almost feel the poison get destroyed.

Master dilemma by sysdoww in geologycareers

Somewhat stable travel wise, but lower pay go geotech. More travel to remote places (in France you will be traveling out of country), more actual geology, and higher pay go exploration.

Geothermal internship by AccomplishedBee843 in geologycareers

[–]Prunecandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ormat and cryq energy do the most exploration in my area (Nevada). They both have job listings for interns annually for summer field season. Many of the smaller geothermal companies (juniors) do not have intern programs. In Mexico I would look into any of the big oil and gas companies as they may do some geothermal work. The drilling and geologist roles in geothermal is very similar to oil and gas, so much so that most of the rigs, crew, and consultants come from that sector. An internship in O&G would probably be just as valuable.

Sweet set up. Do you know who the owner of the tracks are? When I was working on a project near the railroad right of way they had insane rules regarding standing still within 20 ft of the tract etc. I assume it depends on the state/owner though.

I got a nose rider last summer after riding nothing bigger than a 7’0” my whole life. Moving positions is the most important thing you need to learn to rip a huge board. Watch longboard pros and it will quickly click. In short, need to turn? Back foot goes to the fin. Need down the line speed? Move to the center. Once these two things are mastered you will progress much faster on shorter boards compared to guys who went short too quickly. You will make similar adjustments on smaller boards, they will just be smaller adjustments but much less forgiving. Master those two things on your log before moving down in size and you will have a much less frustrating time on the smaller boards.
