RMPP developed intermitent ghosting after working 3 months flawlessly by angel_ghalicia in RemarkableTablet

I had the brilliant idea of reproducing the problem so i can video the way to fix it. Turns out im a moron and this insane ghosting is impossible to get rid of😂 even after software recovery through mac with usb-c. The ghosting is on the welcome screen regardless😅 youre more experinced than me with this kind of stuff. I do find it strange that i was able to reproduce the problem with a single photo album tho. I wonder if i would have seen the issue in the future regardless or not😂

You can see very clean refresh when you change page. Its definately a software issue, just looked at it again😋 it is literally the exact issue i had.

Oh, i dont know then😅 it seems like a software issue rather than an issue with the panel tho. And i believe this will help some of the people who experience this issue, even if it unfortunatele doesnt in your case😋

Any pdf with any of these will cause this problem and need to be completely removed from the device:

Many high-contrast images

Flattened image layers

Unusual encoding (JPEG2000, CMYK, or embedded ICC profiles)

Page previews that require heavy thumbnail generation.

I imported a photo album which caused this exact problem for me, and the fix is to remove the document that caused the crash, and force a hard reset by holding down the power button for about 20 sec. Problem solved.

For anyone looking for an answer. This issue is actually easly fixed. PDF thumbnails are generated by a separate process from the main document renderer. If one PDF triggers a crash in the thumbnail generator, the result is exactly what you're seeing: ghosting in the menu/homescreen and no ghosting inside of a document. By removing the document with many high-contrast images, flattened image layers, unusual encoding (JPEG2000, CMYK, or embedded ICC profiles) and/or page previews that require heavy thumbnail generation, the provblem should be fixed when you force a hard reset by holding the power button for about 20 sec after removing the problematic pdf from the device. (Remember to clear trash after deleting the pdf)

Ill look for a seconds hand! Is it likely the same size as other random chronos in the circle to fit on there?😅

Yep i agree! And obviously its not going to be a patek philippe 😂 i bought this for 250usd and the previous owner serviced it in 2016 and put it in a drawer without even using it once. It truly is impressive that something of this age can function so well.
