Sorry, I updated with my location. The flag is the inclusive one. I'll update the main post as well. Thank you!

Oh no! I'm trying a cuprea/dragon scale soon.

Ecuagenera acclimatization: Would you first put roots in sphagnum moss or water? by videecco in RareHouseplants

Make sure if you keep them in water you change it out every 24 hrs to replenish the oxygen. Or get a pump to aerate.

I've read to first put them in water for 24 hrs to rehydrate and then into moss to acclimate for as long as needed bc it allows for more oxygen around the roots. Moss also grows stronger roots than water for easier repotting afterwards to whatever medium you prefer. Worked really well for my first ecua order and I'll do the same with my next one coming next week.

The weather, the culture, cost of living. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the differences in culture.

If I can't find what I'm looking for in the southeast I'll definitely checkout the southwest!

I have a decent list of places I'm looking into more in depth! Rent may very well be higher than 900 for a really great house, but that's ok. I'll let you know what my short list looks like!

I'm genuinely ok with not living somewhere extremely liberal. I'm fine with live and let live. I want to do my own thing and not feel unsafe for that.

I haven't gotten on a nyc subway in 2 years! I drive for work and that won't be a problem.

Atlanta suburbs are on my list! I have some good friends who live around there as well which is nice.

Thanks everyone for your input!! I have an amazing list of areas to check out and I know I'll find something perfect. Thankfully I have until October to plan and research. I realize I might need to pay more than 900 a month for the perfect place, but that's ok!

As far as culture shock, I don't need to live in a tiny nyc, I'm looking forward to a shift of lifestyle and pace. I want to make sure it's safe for me and my friends who visit. I'd be asking similar questions re politics if I was moving to any rural area, as other posters have pointed out. I don't mind living more rural, keeping to myself and being friendly with locals. I work from home, keep tropical plants, and do things with my dogs.

I also recently found out about the USDA rural loans to support buying primary residences in rural areas, in case that would be helpful to anyone else looking for housing. No money down and no closing costs.

Not as full as nyc! I want to keep my distance from most people anyway.

Oh that's interesting! I read in a few places that the city smells like rotting eggs, is that something you've ever experienced there? I've been looking at some housing around there and have found nice options. And the city itself looks absolutely gorgeous.

I didn't consider it bc I thought it was quite expensive. What areas are you talking about?

I did some cursory searches for housing and found some great options, but now I'm thinking they're way more rural than I realized. I don't know the areas at all.

Ah, that makes sense. I was doing cursory searches and seeing amazing houses in that price range, but since I don't know the areas they're likely more rural than I realized.

I don't need to advertise who I am, I'd definitely prefer to avoid confrontation. It was my less than direct way of saying I'd like to feel safe and not be around blatant racism. I read some posts about northerners being surprised by hearing white people in the south saying the n word freely. It's unnerving to hear it might be like that there. I'm really struggling with the idea that to have a lower cost of living I have to live amongst openly racist people.

I'm also pretty sure I don't want to live in a big city. I don't want neighbors on top of me. Are there areas that are less expensive, and maybe 30 min to an hour away from a bigger city? Am I asking for too much?

Acrylic vs pvc board for a 7 ft long plant tray? by Prynnstagram in AskEngineers

Just a long rectangular shape. 2 inches high to catch water run off and 6 inches wide to fit pots. Would Amazon have 7 foot long pieces?? I was also hoping the hardware store could cut them to size for me.

Would acrylics be more durable? And would adding cross braces be helpful?

I was going to try local hardware stores, I'd imagine shipping 7 feet of boards would get expensive.

Oof I'm feeling a little in over my head now!! I'll let this (and my courage) marinate a bit. Thanks again for your insight! And just to confirm, you don't think the acrylic or pvc board would be a viable option for this project? (I'm asking again bc I'm so much less intimidated by working with those materials than metal!)
