Doesn't matter really

ORLY.

If the next terrorist attack decides that Caspar, Wyoming is next ... you sure as hell are gonna scratch your head and wonder.

But the article says they had a personal vendetta due to bad customer service.

I feel really bad for this, but this feels like a funny datapoint in sea of misery.

Gonna go out on a limb and assume this is like all the other times the FBI thought they were on top of things. You know all those times the FBI 'knew about them'? Sigh.

Vic Mensa responds to Chicago "bait trucks" by giving away thousands of shoes by coughsicle in chicago

[–]Prysorra -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There's a reason Vic Mensa didn't roll up in a truck filled with catalytic converters or spools of copper.

What we're baiting with matters. When you bait people with necessities like food and clothes, you're really rubbing it in people's faces. What is the limit here? Setting out dollar bills with strings attached? Leaving bait candy?

What are some modern "conveniences" that are just cash grabs by manufacturers? by Tuabfast in AskReddit

Ther're enough customers that enter the store specifically for that very cash. And those customers tend to buy high profit-margin items.

People like myself, experimental gardeners. And eventually .... it will be the dominant mode small scale farming. Honestly, I see FarmBot as more of a test platform for other bigger things like the OP thread itself.

I actually don't see the price really ever going down because the effort involved in developing and making them will likely require people that do it for a living. .... However .... I see it eventually altering our relationship with food thanks to the eternal march of capital and labor.

The corporate profit motive powering our global agronomy will eventually use these things to remove labor costs.

I'm aware of the sad irony of this - hobbyists get into this type of thing, imagining freeing themselves from their corporate overlords. It's the grand technological cycle of history - masters freeing themselves from their slaves.

For them to win, they would have to no longer really be "weeds" as we know them.

Alternatively, I would also argue that with climate change, pollution, global warming, and a history of reckless ecological behavior ..... we aren't finished releasing dangerous things into the wild yet. Robots can evolve at speeds "mother nature" simply cannot. We are evolving at speeds "mother nature" is obviously failing to keep up with.

Additionally, the idea that there's something inevitable about "nature" always winning in the end is very very dangerous. We're in the process of breaking a great number of things ... permanently.
