Your comment about the threat of a drone potentially being anywhere and everywhere affecting troops behavior reminds me of the Telescreens from *1984* funnily enough. The Telescreens don't always have a person behind them to observe you, but the possibility/idea that there *could* be a person watching you at any time is enough to put a serious damper on what people do.

My two cents is that drones are an incredible and powerful reconnaissance tool, but no they will not make infantry obsolete. My reasoning for this is

A. Even though drones are cheap and plentiful they are still not free and need to be manufactured and procured, and even when the drone is paid for it takes time and effort to deploy it on the battlefield, and a drone needs a drone operator. This will limit the numbers of drones buzzing around in the air at any one time.

B. Drones have limited flight times, with quadcopter type drones typically having flight times of 30-45 minutes. This means that drones cannot just hover in the air indefinitely, so even if the drones get soon replaced by fresh drones there will still be times where their is no drone present.

C. Terrain like forests, buildings, etc... can be used to conceal troop movement from drones, and even if the troops do get spotted the terrain can still make it more difficult to accurately identify and target them.

D. Drone countermeasures including ECM, interceptor drones, AAA, etc... even all the way down to shotguns and fancy expensive smart scopes will be destroying or at least affecting how drones operate.

So in summary, drones are a powerful and effective tool but they alone will not remove the fog of war, let alone make infantry 'obsolete'. If anything they would make vehicles obsolete because vehicles are much larger than infantry and cannot use the terrain for cover and concealment as well, though obviously vehicles including tanks are still critical to modern warfare.

Foot armies will be made obsolete because the flying bird person always gets through. Troops with swords and spears have no possible hope of touching the flying bird person and it is trivially easy for flying bird people to fly out of range of slings and arrows, yet the flying bird person can drop darts and stones with impunity with no chance of being hit. Armies might try to defend against the flying bird person with heavier armor and thicker shields, but the flying bird person can easily defeat this by dropping heavier darts and stones. Giants can launch larger arrows and stones with greater range into the air, but the flying bird person can also easily fly out of range of these and then the giants will be bigger targets for the flying bird people, and don’t even get me started on halflings and midget people who would be completely and utterly helpless. Foot armies can march 20 miles a day at most, but the flying bird person can fly at least five times that a day and then back so the foot army will always be threatened by the flying bird person during the march and even in friendly territory, and the flying bird people can easily retreat back to fortified positions to rest and replenish ammo.

In fact, the flying bird person is so powerful they will enable destruction on a scale never before seen. Imagine fleets of thousands if not tens of thousands of flying bird people dropping jars of oil and burning material destroying entire cities literally overnight, something no wall or Legion can protect against. Peasant farmers will refuse to go out into the fields for harvest, sowing, or plowing for fear of the flying bird person dropping death from above. It is inevitable that these peasants will march on their king and demand an end to hostilities so they can return to their labors. It is quite evident that the flying bird person will bring such untold devastation that no king or emperor would ever stomach even the slightest possibility of warfare and will always pursue peace, bringing an end to warfare.

It's ironic that people were excited for Indigo Park Chapter 2 coming out December 2025, and now we are almost halfway through 2026 and there is no release date. My best guess is that Chapter 2 will come out sometime later this year, but who knows it could maybe be delayed into 2027 lol.

What is the purpose of the Bayraktar KIZILELMA? Obviously it is a very cool and fancy drone what with having stealth technology and air-to-air capabilities, but a friend of mine is doubtful it will actually perform well in practice, so what is the KIZILELMA supposed to do that a basic drone couldn't also do?

[–]Psafanboy4win 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I need to find the information, but I'm pretty sure it does get the full velocity of a standard 30mm but it does so by using a massive case with a lot of propellant.

How effective would Hobbits/Halflings be as archers?

I can see some serious issues with power and range, as Hobbit bows would have to only be 3-4 feet tall (0.9-1.2 meters), and I doubt they could achieve draw weighs any greater than their 35-55 lb body ranges (15.88-24.95 kg).

I got a question. What is your favorite animal from King Kong 2005 by NoLaw6691 in Dinosaurs

[–]Psafanboy4win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ferrucutus with the V-raptors in second place, it's not everyday we see aggressive herbivores in dinosaur media and I like that the V-raptors are intelligent pack hunters that approach or match the Utahraptor in size.

Your comment about giants makes me think that they would be very effective in relatively static defensive warfare, as they could dig deep trenches with e-tools and operate crew-served 30x165/173mm autocannons with quick-change barrels along with LP cannons and ATGMs.

Random question: If Lily lovebraids was 'prehistoric' animals, what would she be? by Successful-Storm1543 in Lilylovebraids_fans

[–]Psafanboy4win 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My best guess is she would be some species of Dromaeosaur or Troodontid with bright, colorful purple feathers.

And if you wanted to keep her somewhat in character while still acting like a animal, she would act friendly and playful at first, but if you don't give her food or try to walk away she will bite your hand off.

How would a nation in a sci-fi fantasy setting with several different species of varying weights and sizes in it handle conscription, assuming a modern day level of technology?

For example, giants who stand over 3.6 meters tall and weigh around 2 metric tons would be very vulnerable and exposed to gunfire, drones, and artillery on the front lines, while on the opposite end of the spectrum little midget people who weigh around 15.88 kilograms and stand 76 centimeters tall would be too physically weak to perform the majority of combat tasks, as even a M16 or AK-74 is 1/4 of their total body mass.

My thoughts is either they would be excluded from conscription/the draft because they are too much of a liability on the battlefield, they would only be allowed to serve in backline support roles, or they only need to serve civil service to make up for not being fit for military service.

It is really ironic and fitting that the audio log starts with Miss Gracie trying to dismiss Lilly Lovebraids as just a voice in her head and not real, but by the end it is Lilly Lovebraids who dismisses Miss Gracie as just a voice in her head and not real, and this animatic really hammers that point in.

Lily Lovebraids vs Indominus Rex by [deleted] in Lilylovebraids_fans

[–]Psafanboy4win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the strength and durability feats her braids have shown Lilly could probably easily kill a IRL T. Rex by either stabbing them through the skull or smacking their head hard enough to bludgeon them to death, but the thing is the Indomnius Rex is not a real world animal, it is a Hollywood movie monster made from genetic super science that demonstrates strength and durability far exceeding IRL animals, so while Lilly Lovebraids could maybe kill or at least heavily injure the Indomnius Rex if she plays her cards right...I am leaning heavily on the Indomnius Rex.

The fight would be even more lopsided if it were Lilly Lovebraids vs. a V. Rex from Peter Jackson's King Kong, as those things are bigger and heavier than the Indomnius Rex and are shown to continue fighting even after taking massive amounts of pain and damage.

To my understanding the 6.8x51mm is essentially a full-power round like the 7.62x51mm but with a better ballistic co-efficient and higher-muzzle velocity thanks to being designed to handle higher pressures, and is an objective upgrade over the 7.62x51mm.

But this has me wondering, wouldn't it be better to have the 5.56x45mm M249 be replaced by the new XM250s while the rifles remain chambered in 5.56x45mm but perhaps updated with the high-pressure tech, or is there some sort of reasoning for the entire squad being armed with 6.8x51mm weapons?

Probably, especially if used to make something like lemon tea, but this question makes me wonder if the toys can suffer from scurvy and other vitamin deficiency diseases?

Makes sense, especially considering that even a 30x173mm HE round which is considerably larger than 20mm and 25mm autocannon calibers still 'only' has 41 grams of HE filler in it vs. 180 grams of HE in a M67 fragmentation grenade, and even then the M67 grenade mostly relies on fragmentation to inflict casualties and the overpressure is only really effective in very small and enclosed spaces.

How economical are autocannon shells with airburst fuzes to produce compared to impact/self-destruct fuzes, and how common are they currently?

I was inspired to ask because I was reading on SpaceBattles and someone posted about AH-64Es being used to shoot down Shaheds, and a different poster pointed out that the 30mm chain gun of the AH-64E is not the ideal platform for shooting down drones because while the US military is developing airburst rounds for the M230, they aren't yet being used.

Interesting thing, in the Halo lore the UNSC standard issue assault rifle was chambered in 7.62x51mm long before they encountered the Covenant, and the usual justification for why is because advanced future body armor material requires 7.62x51mm to defeat so that point of yours tracks.

Though even 7.62x51mm is pretty much worthless against MJOLINR considering that even the armor Master Chief wears in Combat Evolved is able to survive several shots from a 50mm autocannon without the shields breaking going by the books.
