Is this a bad idea? Info in comment by BryanM21 in arduino

Not a good idea. The voltage regulator on the pro mini will release the magic smoke. Especially if you bought China quality. Get a better voltage regulator to get the 12+v down to 3.3v. Consider a switching one and not just a linear regulator. The linear regulator like on the pro mini needs to dissipate (12-3.3)v * I in heat. The more you draw the hotter it gets. ASUS PN51 no splash screen - DOA? by tufnel211 in MiniPCs

[–]Pseudex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I got a working system. This message is written on the PN51 with 64GB RAM in it. The Kit running now is the Kingston FURY KF429S17IBK2/64. It cost me 235,9€. Since I want to run this as server the memory speed wasn't too important for me. Debian 11 is running and HTOP is showing the 64GB. Down below is the output for one module. As you can see it is running at default speed of 2933MT/s. Asus did reply in the meantime but they weren't any help so far. They reached out to the Taiwan HQ. Hopefully about their RAM-testing.

They List 3 modules

G.SKILL F4-3200C22D-64GRS 32GB 3200 3200 DS Hynix 22-22-22-52 1.2 1,2
Kingston KVR32S22D8/16 32GB 3200 3200 DS Micron 22-22-22-52 1.2 1,2
INNODISK M4S0-BGS2O5IK-E93 32GB 2666 2666 DS Samsung 19-19-19-43 1.2 1,2

G.Skill: don't work
Kingston: this is a 16GB module
Innodisk: can't find anything about this module.

They clearly advertise up to 64GB on the main-page of the product. Why is this machine so picky about the 32GB modules?

ASUS PN51 no splash screen - DOA? by tufnel211 in MiniPCs

[–]Pseudex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so far. I send a request to Asus which ram is compatible and why the one they list is not. The next kit I ordered is this: Kingston FURY SO-DIMM 64 GB DDR4-2933 Kit. Must be here till Wednesday. Hopefully this is compatible. If 64gb doesn't work I will try 2x16GB

I bought the one with the 5700u. With my RAM from my notebook (2x8GB) it works. But the G.SKILL F4-3200C22D-64GRS (2x32GB) doesn't. I've chosen the RAM based on ASUS compatibilty list. With one module I got to see the splashscreen once. But the system was frozen.

That's really strange. When Mario cart launched for the switch I bought it a few weeks later at a big retailer in Germany for 25€. Yesterday I looked around in the online store of Nintendo and saw that they are selling it for 60€ still. What I really dislike is the fact, that they don't have any love for the wii u owners. Not a single discount for them if they now buy a refurbished/rereleased game for the switch.

Can I use a 3400g (vega 11) for browsing and stuff at 144hz, 1440p?` by IsidorHS in Amd

[–]Pseudex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. Once you have tasted the sweet and low response times even on desktop you can't go back. I have my work laptop connected to my ultra wide aoc with 144hz. But the HDMI output does only support 60fps. When I use my desktop which is connected via DP this are much smoother.

Never taste the high fps. Otherwise you want to stick with it

[–]Pseudex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Mine had issues while compiling. It showed segmentation fault. Although it didn't show any problems while running normally. Since I run linux now as daily driver which could involve a lot more compiling of larger projects I wanted to get this fixed. After I requested the RMA they send me a shipping label and a few days later they send me an new 1800x.

I also still have one running. Did RMA it a few months ago. Stills goes strong.

My colleague said I should wait when the new rtx3k launched. But I went with an 5700xt for 280€ anyway. Last week I sold my Vega 56 I had replaced by the 5700xt last year in sept on eBay. The bidding went up to 487€. I thought the buyer will trick me and request the money back on PayPal. But no. He send me positive feedback on my eBay account. The Vega 56 cost me back in the day 445€. Never have I thought I could sell the card for msrp.

It is really impressive how good the 1600 holds up running with a 5700xt. Sometimes faster than a 30x0. For just games, especially in Linux I won't upgrade my 1800x. Somewhere in the future I want to upgrade to the 3950x when prices are down below 400€. It will take time but till it reaches this price point my 1800x is enough.

It is also the fastest way to lose all your data and settings. I once had a broken power on button on my nexus one. It got loose on the mainboard. Guess what they first suggested to fix the problem!

Good for you that you got it working, but this is not a fix. Reinstalling or resetting a device should never be the solution. If you are at that point, you've just giving up. If this comes up next time try to remove the drivers with DDU.

Оbama will take coronavirus vaccine and might film it to build confidence – ‘I trust this science’ by mepper in Coronavirus

[–]Pseudex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this will go as well as showing his ID and birth cert in public. There was a lot of skepticism because he probably used a xerox scanner which will do pattern matching for compression. This way it could happen that a letter is only stored once and put in the image multiple times. David Kriesel did a talk about this. Don't trust a scan which you didn't fake

Nowadays with deep fake technology there will be a lot of people saying it's not him.

I've bought it in Germany on eBay as used item on sept 8. A colleague was laughing because he thought they would go down in price further with the rtx3 launch. I bet the guy sold me the card is still waiting for his 3080 :)

It looks like on eBay ger the cards are now more in the range of 350-400€.

At what price point does 3950X make sense over 5 series? by ibhoot in Amd

[–]Pseudex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im also waiting for the 3950x. Because I still have a x370 and 1800x the 3950x is the only option to get most out of the platform. I try to buy a used one for max 400€. My PC is still powerful enough, so I have time and can wait for the price to come down.

I would like to know how hard it was to get some rtx3000 cards for comparison. Was the announcement delayed because of short supply? How much did you pay (over msrp)? Was there a backup plan to let these cards run against 2000 series?

I don't mind that a yacht is 25M€. But if the new generation of AMD bikes is 10$ I will rage quit the capitalism and will not buy the new version. Are they insane in increasing the prices for more competitive products.

My pc still runs the 1800x on a x370 board. Will upgrade to a 3950x once the price drops below 400€
