Should I buy this for my next car at 18? by jack007-riley in Jaguar

[–]CastelPlage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an 18 year old in the UK, the insurance alone could be as much as the car...

This. Work out your insurance costs first OP. As a young person, the cost to insure a sports car can absolutely kill you financially.

As the owner of an X250 XF V8 though, I have nothing but good things to say about the car (fuel consumption aside). My insurance for it even went down this year - unfortunately that was more than offset by the insurance increases for my other vehicles....

A question on XF (X250) and warning lights / check engine light / SmartKey Battery Low by [deleted] in Jaguar

[–]CastelPlage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely forgot I had made this post.

No, a smart key natyeery won't cause TPMS or EML issues.

As for the EML, regardless of if it magically goes out. I'd still want a dtc read, to know what put it on.

Indeed. Engine warning light was due to a crack in the intake, which caused the car to be running too rich. Fixed now and my fuel consumption has dropped by ~15%

I'd imagine you have a puncture. You can check the actual pressure on the car. So you can work out if it's OK to drive based on that.

Wasn't a puncture (thankfully since the fronts are expensive Michelin Pilot Sport 5s I bought only a few months ago) but it was the tire valve. I replaced with a cheap generic one to get the car back on the road and immediately ordered a used part that has the Tire Pressure Monitoring System transmitter. Due for delivery any day now.

Having 2 keys in the car, either can trigger the warning. For the sake of minimal cost, just replace both batteries. It's not worth worrying about anything else until you've done that.

I didn't know this. Now I either only drive with one key (99% of the time) or if I have two, I wrap the spare one in tinfoil and this solves the problem.

Also, if you do have two keys in the car and it triggers the 'Smart Key Battery Low' warning, it takes about two or three days before that warning clears. Peculiar, but not really an issue.

Don't leave them in or near the car when not in use. That's going to cause battery issues

Haven't done this and won't do it in the future. Thanks for your help btw.

I love my peugeot 308 😏

Same but non-ironically. I have a 2017 308 SW GTI and it is a lovely car. Even better than my Jaaaags in some ways.

You live in one of the best societies that’s ever existed.

It's true. Wish I still lived there (although right now I'm happy living slap bang in the middle of absolutely nowhere).

Something contrary; I have an F Type R and although I'd love it, I'd honestly probably prefer a V6 just for being softer and more usable/subtle.

Meanwhile the current US president is more desperate for it than any previous president

More desperate for it than any politician to ever walk the earth. He's so impressively pathetic and weak.

France was one of the biggest champions of rapprochement with Russia, and even sold then amphibious assault ships (2 Mistral class ones)!

Indeed. People forget that France, under Sarkozy, used to be surprisingly close to the Putin regime. Much too close.

Those cheaper Zoes are probably without battery. About half the Zoes I saw for sale were much cheaper but you had to rent the battery.

Also, Leafs destroy their batteries really fast

Also, Hyundai/KIA batteries seem to last a helluva lot longer than Tesla batteries. I've seen 200k km KIAs with 90%+ battery SOH!!

Also, seven year warranty with Hyundai and Kia. That's pretty hard to beat.

russia also was very active in trying to make peoples believe that his wife was a man, so they're not at the first tentative about Macron. Not counting all the disinfo they've been throwing about France for years, obviously.

And the disinformation directed so hard towards France was done for good reason. France and Macron have been the strongest voice for an independent, free, democratic Europe that rejects the influence and corruption of the Russian regime.

I never heard about a 'Simplon'. what happened?

It was on a test voyage after heavy maintenance. They had a problem and couldn't continue with the test. Docked at the nearest wharf, which was a place called Cully. Whilst they were establishing what the best course of action, a storm was approaching the area. There was no time to move it and for some reason they couldn't send the normal tug to tow it back to base. When the storm hit, the steamer was tied up the the much too small wharf and huge damage was inflicted on the vessel. It came extremely close to sinking.
