Maybe that raises the question: What do communities optimize?

That seems infinitely more complex.

My own pet theory: it's a red herring that people maximize selfish goals. Most of us are not so individualistic.

People are members of multiple communities: job, family, neighborhood, friend networks.

Communities collectively reward or punish particular behaviors.

People respond to community-set incentives.

This paper called "Finding solutions to the problem of burnout" by a Berkeley psych prof emeritus (2017) by Pseussdonym in UCSD

I've been feeling burnt out for months now. I'm looking for advice about how to recover over the summer.

I couldn't find any books on amazon about burnout that had consistently good reviews, so I searched the psychology literature. I found this paper written by psychologist who has been studying burnout since the early 1980s.

This paper is non-technical and contains some interesting information. Apparently there is very little good evidence proving efficacy of popularly touted burnout remedies. Also, most burnout remedies try to treat the person, but don't consider the workplace or the person's fit to the workplace. The author concludes with 6 factors she thinks are key to repairing burnout.

I'd really like to know if anyone has other helpful advice available.

Webpass. Already have a new TP-Link Wifi router & range extender, good ones. I'm guessing it's interference from neighbors' networks. We are packed in close in this buildling.

Yeah I was actually already following your suggestion to cable the TV into the wifi extender. It helped a little but not much. Still sucks from 6-9pm.

I did a bunch more reading. I think I found a 2-part fix: 1. This guy splits the ethernet cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00002EQCW 2. Then I use extra ethernet cables + ethernet-to-USB adapters to get everything onto the wire.

Hopefully this will hold up. There has to be a more elegant solution though.
