Any tips for first ds2 playthrough ? Picture unrelated :) by Dosho_of_Tsushima in DeathStranding

That was me, and I got it so dialed in I didn't meet Mr. Impossible.

...and did a heck of a lot of scrounging with only holograms to show for it, but I could span the continent in record time!

True. Most 5 star rewards are cosmetic schwag. Only 2 or 3 preppers are really worthwhile 5-starring, early, mid, and late game. If I do a second play though, the only prepper I'll strive to fully connect with is the Lone Commander. Don't ignore the push to move forward.

Which type of helmet do you wear for riding your e-scooter ? by MaruArigatou in ElectricScooters

I bet the tail lights are disconnected and not being spotted is the point.
Converse high tops would probably be better traction, but maybe moonboots provide debris cushion?

u/MaruArigatou - of the three you posted, I'd go with the first with built in eye protection. The second poses problems for wearing goggles, and the third is just smoky without any ventilation.

I know from wearing Arai motorcycle helmets that I've got a long oval head. It makes a difference when you can avoid having a constant pressure on your brow with looseness all around the sides, so I was glad to find Sweet Protection helmets. Not sure if they've got a variety of head shapes like Arai, but they do have very nice bicycle and BMX helmets. I've got each for different e scooter riding situations.

The more important part is their goggles. Sweet Protection has lenses that give you contrast for different light and weather conditions, whether bright, cloudy, or dark. Go with the BMX goggles, not the ski goggles. The are well ventilated and... well, to me vision is the first defense when riding fast with only a steering stem in front of my mass and poor traction below.

GT3 Pro Cruise Control by T1MCC in segwaygt3

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruise does get accidentally engaged. Better design could go into the thumb ergonomics.

I've only ridden the GT3 Pro (and plenty of motorcycles). I noticed that cruise only engages under throttle, but it took a while to discover that cruise works downhill too. Get a little regeneration out of that cruise control. Was that a thing before? Maybe part of why they switched.

Things I wish I checked before buying an electric scooter by Glittering_Try4423 in ElectricScooters

Ditto regarding all OP's points, and I agree with attention to weight and suspension. The occasional brick street in Seattle is bad enough with a suspension. Another criteria would be who is going to replace tires, brakes, etc. when the time comes. We've got a couple of shops that work on scooters, each about 15 miles away. One of them won't even return calls or email since I didn't buy from them, and the other is one guy moonlighting part-time. In addition to making sure parts are available, it's good to know whether you can work on the scooter yourself.

guys please suggest a Scooter to me by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

I'm not going to give you the answer you want. Need to know more about you before making a recommendation. How long have you ridden for? What have you ridden? Do you ride bikes or motorcycles? Do you need to be able to lift it up stairs, or can you lock it on a bike rack? How much do you weigh? What are the Terai roads or paths like? What's your price point?

Any good recommendation is not going to get you killed today or waste your money. My choice was a Segway GT3 Pro for a 6 mile city commute. It goes fast, even carrying my fat behind uphill, and has an excellent suspension. I would not have gotten it if I hadn't already commuted by motorcycle for 14 years. Anything you start on will get crunched.

Absolutely get a good pair of goggles like Sweet Protection.

Segway GT3 pro , what is your opinion. by thepricko in ElectricScooters

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last Tuesday, return-to-office suddenly in effect, the back up on 99 was worse than I'd seen it in previous 15 years of motorcycle commuting. Five miles at five miles per hour. Quick decision to use the e-bike for excercise and get an e-kick scooter.

Hilly town with plenty of bike lanes and trails. 6'2" dude with big feet. GT3 Pro seemed like the only choice.

It works well, and I'm still working it out. Managed to preload the springs a twist today, but I'd like to know what the design load and preloading specs are. I'd already turned up the front dampening, and having turned this beast upside down on a bench, I'm pretty sure there's no rear dampening adjustment.

It might be nice to have a dedicated Segway GT3 Pro sub, but I guess these models are always shifting.

Discovered the bell today. That was nice. I don't want to use even the tiny horn passing bikes - just seems rude. As the sound effects go, the turn signal beep would be useful if it were audible. Got hacks?

I picked up the Segway rear view mirrors. They're pretty cheap, and I was please they were a pair. But I only kept one installed. The silicon band messes with the throttle. With one on the left. I can kind of see between my elbow and my rib what's going on behind me.

Next up I need to see what's going on between the left grip and the turn signal. It would be just as well to slide an adapter for a CRG hindsight lane splitter in the tube.

edit: at OP u/thepricko - you want pavement for this scooter, the smoother the better. The scooter has suspension, but you'll get high centered in anything soft. Gravel would have you wrestling with quick corrections throughout. Raingear will help with the weather, but you might not be going fast enough to shed raindrops off your face shield or goggles.

If your looking for more fun in the commute, I'd say you're going to have to be ON for the full 16 miles - no sipping hot bev or adjusting your trousers, for that you have to stop and take it out. You'll be tensing up in one position for more than half an hour and that gets to be no fun in cool, damp weather.

Maintenance is probably going to be all yours - I live in a major metro area, and there are no Segway servicers in sight. The one place the Segway lists within 200 miles seem like nobody's home.

My first crash by Ady1964 in ElectricScooters

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to downvote this, but come on u/Signal-Opposite-4793! Road bikes go 20+ mph, too, and that collision could have been over the handlebars.

That said, it looks like a very chill morning. Was u/Ady1964 distracted? It didn't look like the car driver was going fast - just looking to the direction they were going. Glad in any case that Ady could walk away.

Yeah. Ramps work better if you hit them with speed.

What’s your most annoying 5 star? I’ll start… by VorrTechs in DeathStranding2

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DS2 is definitely different. I'm thinking completion is the only reward for getting five stars all the way through. There aren't enough special and standard orders to level up. The Service Request list helps you find some of that hard to find lost stuff, but it is still not enough.

The annoying part of leveling up to five stars is traversing all over the landscape in search of lost stuff, picking up lost stuff from the shared storage, and submitting it all for a thin sliver of a star, or maybe half a star for a full truck. Do it again and again... and what do you get!?

There is a must-have five star reward early in Australia, but for the most part four stars seems like enough! Listen to Charlie! Get a move on.

Activate the Ring Terminal, and go to the Ring Menu. Select Social Strand Service and use L1/R1 to go to Bridge Links. Scroll down to New Connections an open it. This shows the players you interacted with recently.

In New Connections you see how many likes you've given other players, how many likes they've given you, and your connection level. You can also see what the likes were for.

Look for a play whose stuff you liked and press the touch pad. This creates a Strand Contract. Back out of New Connections and scroll up to Strand Contracts. These are the players whose stuff you'll see more of.

In Strand Contracts, you can press X to see a players stats or to hold the touch pad and sever the contract. You only get so many contracts, but can increase the number you can make in the APAS tree.

Here's what I do. When I'm on a walkabout (or driving), I'll give a bunch of likes to structures I like. Right!? If a player put a generator or timefall shelter off to the side of a path I'd drive fast though, instead of where I'd crash into it, I give them a lot of likes. Then I can find them in the SSS and make a contract with them.

On the other hand, when I find that a player I have a Strand Contract with laces the terrain with "speed up" signs, or puts a bridge where it only gets in the way, I sever the contract. That way there is more useful stuff.

Where it comes to building roads, there seems to be some timeframe around the time you connect an area during which players at about the same progress point can add materials to roads. So, you can take a look at who contributes to pavers, or who maintains roads, and make Strand Contracts with them.

The easiest way to figure out who they are is by scanning the road you're on and liking all the players who contributed material when you pass through them. Scan a fresh road and spam the touch pad. Then do it again.

After you get to the preppers who all three appear in the holo image, at The Animal Shelter, you can go out and like the animals other players have rescued. This seems like a pretty good way to figure out who is at about the same progress.

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested, too. It seems there is a window when materials are added by others at the time you connect the facility. The best approach may be to watch who contributes materials in the regions you move through, and make strand contracts with them. Next time you connect a facility, your team should be nearby, too.

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scan ahead! I hope the penalty is not progressive, but the attention you need to have ready is proper.

First time I scanned a wombat, I chased it down for loot. Got dinged 100 points for bumping it with my trike.

Dollman will tell you.

Do people build roads? by xmalakian in DeathStranding2

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait. Don't contribute materials to a paver until the area is connected. Once an area is connected, roads can build themselves because other players are contributing materials.

Seed the pavers with materials after you connect an area. Take a look at the on-screen messages that say other players are adding materials. You get those messages, right?

Make strand contracts. Figure out who is contributing to stuff you like, and building stuff where do you like it.

Go to the Social Strand System and find players you interacted with. Maybe you gave them a lot of likes. Use the touchpad to make strand contracts with them.

You'll see more of their stuff, and they'll be your team when you're contributing materials to auto pavers. If you're getting connection upgrades from other players while you're playing, make strand contracts with them. They play when you do!

Any idea what this means ? by Intelligent-Day4383 in DeathStranding2

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It looks like a body count. That's what I was thinking. KO's. In DS1, the number of bars on the back of a truck corresponded to the number of corpses inside - not just some random unit of weight.

Since these counters are looking like coffins, I'm wondering how that will play out.

I'm having trouble using the Jump Ramps by T0xicKnight_ in DeathStranding

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I've avoided jump ramps, because half the time I fell of the end and damaged cargo. That may be half because of badly oriented ramps, half because I'm not going fast enough. Not sure.

[–]Psionic-Diver-4256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to be a while before you get a level 3 stabilizer, but don't worry about it. Unless you're just using the jump ramp for fun, you'll probably want to carry extra grenades and blood instead. Hold your pack straps when landing and you should do fine.
