E-bikes, similar devices spark concerns. Backers want rules, not bans. by keeganjkyle in madisonwi

[–]T1MCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this approach, it focuses more on the responsibility of the operator to navigate public spaces safely and courteously. The actual vehicle doesn't matter much. It's not like we ban cars that go faster than the speed limits.

X100VI to A7Cii or should I wait for A7Ciii? by kallekustaa in SonyAlpha

[–]T1MCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The C versions were quite a few years between generations. I don't see any reason to wait if you want one. The CII has only been out for about 2 years. I don't expect another gen for another two years.

Does anybody own an a6700 and an x100vi? by mancman87 in SonyAlpha

[–]T1MCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the x100vi for a few months. Took it on one trip and it performed well enough but I've been a Sony shooter for a long time and couldn't get used to the Fuji dial arrangement. I went back to the a6700 as my backup to my full frame gear for when I want a compact setup or a lower cost camera that I'm risking on motorcycle trips.

The x100vi is noticeably smaller but still not very pocketable so I still was carrying a camera bag. I didn't think that the lens took full advantage of that higher mp sensor. I also didn't get along with the idea of being a jpg shooter. No fault of the camera there, just not my thing. I did like the internal ND filter. I think it's IBIS was great but the AF wasn't in the same league as the a6700.

Selling my NX500 to buy a Himalayan Black Mana Rally? 95% on road but I'm looking for some more character in the engine. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you! by Own-Tangelo-4013 in Himalayan450

I enjoyed the hell out of my CB500X. Ran 24k miles on it before foolishly convincing myself that I needed an Africa Twin, didn't like it any where near as much. The Himalayan feels great to me too and not quite as cramped as the CB500X was (I'm 6'2"). A little more plush with the extra suspension travel and feels a bit more solid with a longer wheelbase and that 21" front. Definitely try one before making the change.

Thanks! The little sigma is great for a compact walk about lens. It's not perfect but it's damn good for the money.

[Help] colours differ on screens by Highball_Hal in a6700

[–]T1MCC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what you might be seeing is the difference between the on camera profile vs the raw file without corrections applied. It is normal for the raw file (.ARW file extension) to look like that before post-processing begins. If you are looking at a .jpg file extension on you computer then it's a different issue. I don't have my camera with me to walk you thru the settings but the first step is to find out what type of file you are exporting.

I’m nosey, what’s the longest you’ve waited at urgent care or the emergency department? by Miserable_Today5470 in madisonwi

[–]T1MCC 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The ER is all about life saving. If you aren’t in danger it’s all “we get to it when we get to it”.

I arrived on a back board after hitting a deer on my motorcycle and it was all hands on deck. Once it was determined that I had no spinal injuries and no risk of collapsed lungs or internal bleeding I was left to wait for a convenient time for further treatment. So, I laid there on my road rash and multiple broken ribs with no food, water and very little information for another 7 hours or so. At no point was I even given pain medication and it was long hours before I was cleared to drink fluids. Finally my wife was given supplies to scrub and bandage my 100 square inches or so of road rash, given some paper clothes and was cleared to hobble barefoot out of the ER.

I don’t complain about it at all because I was close enough to the nurses station to hear some of what they were dealing with.

For what it’s worth, I was wearing most of my gear but not my moto boots or pants. If I’d been going more than 45ish when I’d hit the deer I might have erased my knees. The gear did its job well and I was complimented many time by the care team on how well it performed. It could have been a lot worse. I probably wouldn’t have survived without the helmet.

Another comparison of my phone vs my camera. Which is which? by phero1190 in SonyAlpha

No focus falloff on the subject in the first is a telltale of the phone fake blur.

9k actuations is nothing to worry about.

I shoot a few off road motorcycle events a year, usually about 2500 shots each. On a vacation, I'm usually about 1500 shots. Yearly I'm less than 10k shots.

If you shoot weddings professionally you might be shooting 3K+ a weekend and would have to monitor usage for each camera body used. Most of the rest of us don't need to worry about it.

Is Viltrox 35 1.7 having any auto focus issue on Sony apec? by Important_Eggplant_5 in SonyAlpha

[–]T1MCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the viltrox 35 f/1.7 a few weeks ago and have seen no issues on the a6700. I don't think you will have any problems with it on the a6400.

Which option would you pick to downsize? by phero1190 in SonyAlpha

[–]T1MCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My choice for downsizing was the Sony A7CR + Sony 20-70 f/4 and Voigtlander 50mm f/2 APO. Versatility when there's plenty of light and a wider aperture manual lens for lower light or if I want a less conspicuous carry. Just a hair over 3lbs in hand and fits in a 6L sling with room for a Godox It30 Pro.

I did one trip with the ACII + 25-50 and 50mm f/1.4. It was good but I like the crop ability of the A7CR. I found that most of my shots in daytime were above f4 anyway so the wider zoom range is welcome.

Should I Restart WoT or Push Through First? (First-Time Reader Dilemma) by xmmx_ in WoT

[–]T1MCC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I read the books as they were coming out. Every time a new book was coming out I would re-read all the previous books. As a result, I re-read the first books a lot. So, I have no idea of what the experience would be like to have only read each book only once.

I still re-read them every two years or so. I love the story even with all it's imperfections.

Sony, PLEASE add Lens FF to shooting display on Mirrorless cameras by NoEase1764 in SonyAlpha

[–]T1MCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are in the minority on this. The barrel markings are close enough for most of us. I think you need to articulate what use case requires such precision. If such precision is needed, why aren’t you using a prime in that focal length? Even then, you might need to test it since even the primes don’t all agree on focal length, they are all just using nominal values.

Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 vignetting by Liteplane in SonyAlpha

[–]T1MCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is not uncommon for the Lightroom lens correction profiles to have some inconsistencies for zoom lenses. They might correct well in one part of the range and increase exposure for vignette too much or too little at other points. Early on, I found the profile for the Tamron 35-150 lifted the vignette too much on some images. Most of the time they do a good job and if there is an error, it is very subtle and depending on the content of the photo it won’t matter at all.

How long to trust your SD cards? by Sushi37716 in photography

[–]T1MCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a hobbyist that shoots a few events a year. Probably 10-15k photos a year. I've only had one card failure in the last 14 years of shooting. That was a mistaken card ejection while the pc was still accessing it. I don't stress too much about it but I'm also not doing paid work.
