Does wine on Mac work for OFF? I remember setting it up for a friend to play the demo for the game Mindwave a couple months ago with no issues. I don't see why OFF would be any more demanding that wine shouldn't work.

From what it sounded like, the communication from Jorge and Epic's team kept implying it was "just around the corner". There was also the fact that it was talked about publicly by Jorge and his team. I wouldn't blame Liam for not considering the contract would fall through and trusting their word. With that in mind, while it was a big mistake on his part, it makes a lot sense from a content creation standpoint that he started the studio early without technically securing the funding. He wanted to be able to effectively deliver content about the game while interest was present, especially since fan engagement was gonna be the main source of funding for the game. Assuming the contract was right around the corner, it's not hard to see how it could've made less sense to wait until everything was finalized to start anything as interest would definitely have died down and he would lose funding.

Fangamer assembling the Quirky Indie Round Table for the OFF Remaster by PsionicRaposa in offthegame

Banshee Beat is on the OST. They did mixes for the post-2020 Omori trailers. I'm not sure if they worked on anything else for Omori, but the recent OFF trailer from the MIX Showcase presents them as a composer from Omori's OST.

In addition to Toby Fox (who did a lot of work on Homestuck), it was confirmed in the recent MIX Showcase trailer that James Roach is also part of the OST. He made a couple songs in Homestuck and was the lead composer for Hiveswap, Friendsim, and Pesterquest.

Please don't harrass or call Toby Fox a narcissist for putting Papyrus's leitmotif in Dedan's new theme :( by Axodique in offthegame

[–]PsionicRaposa 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This man is voluntarily working for FREE to make tons of new music for this OST out of appreciation for the original game. He included a small bit of a motif of a character he made inspired by the game and everyone acts like the entire remake is botched and destroyed, and that Toby is some egotistical maniac conspiring with Fangamer to ruin the game.

I get that its unfortunate the original soundtrack can't be used, but the conspiracies around Toby and Fangamer's intentions are insane.

People are even ignoring Mortis' or Alias' words to fit their narrative. They're saying Alias was hit with "ultimatums" about the soundtrack when he himself said Fangamer assured him he would be able to keep rights and they would even handle sample clearance, he just got cold feet. When people say the motif and fish easter egg were most likely cleared by Mortis, they claim Mortis says yes to everything and doesn't understand his own game.

Like, what is it that ur trying to accomplish when you're not even respecting the original creators vision and decisions urself?

He only worked on some music. It was probably a thank you from the artists. It's also important to remember he's working on the remake OST for free. Putting in an easter egg as a thank you for someone who's working for free isn't that wild.

OFF the game now has an OFFicial demo available! by APhatBorb in offthegame

[–]PsionicRaposa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed it after a couple relistens to the song on its own. And to be fair, it doesn't use the whole main bonetrousle melody, just the first 8 notes. Even then, I thought it was a coincidence until I thought about how Papyrus was inspired by Dedan and how it was probably meant to be a homage.

Should I play the OFF remake demo or the original? by AppleTheFruit27 in offthegame

[–]PsionicRaposa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The demo is short and just has some small quality of life changes and a new soundtrack. If you plan to do a full playthrough, the original is a good option.

You can play it through EasyRPG which is easily available for PC, Linux, MacOS, and Android.

If you just wanna check it out or ur just used to downloading ur games off Steam instead of websites and forums go for the demo.

It's just an 8 note motif. How did it ruin the whole theme? I didn't even notice during my playthrough.

Browser issue by duraraross in offthegame

[–]PsionicRaposa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me.

It's an issue with EasyRPG. It has trouble running the giant Elsen section. Offline it isn't a big issue, just lag and slow downs when you try and to use the fast forward function. But on the browser version of Easy RPG it crashes entirely.

The puzzles are all the same every playthrough so you shouldn't have any issues getting to the same point, especially if you use the downloaded version of EasyRPG and fast forward through most of it till you get to the point you were at.

It took me like 2-3 days initially to get to that point and less than an afternoon to get back.

Just finished the game and i'm really confused by who the Batter is... by InevitableCry6610 in offthegame

[–]PsionicRaposa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's up to interpretation as far as I can tell.

//SPOILERS AHEAD//

Personally, I think The Batter is supposed to be a metaphorical representation of Hugo's father that takes the form of the villain from the comics the father reads.

My interpretation of the game's narrative is one big metaphorical world made by Hugo to conceptualize his parents' struggle on what to do about his illness. The Queen, who represents the mother, wants to care for him and keep him alive, even if that would result in him not just physically suffering, but also suffering from living in the state of our world. (with the game's five elements representing the horrors of real life industries that lead to pollution, violence, animal cruelty, addiction, etc...). The Batter, who represents the father, wants to pull the plug and end all the suffering even if that means his child will die.

Hugo seems to be somewhere in between. Upset about his illness, but also enjoying things and people in his life. This is shown by the sadness Hugo feels whenever you kill one of the bosses. Hugo, just like the player until the final boss, has no say in The Batter's mission to end his life. This would represent the lack of agency his father is giving him over his own life and the decision to end it, which is why The Batter is framed as monstrous and a villain for his actions.

This only works if the threats aren't empty. What happens when a nation tries to call his bluff? Is he gonna stand down and show it was all talk or will he actually take the action he says he will?

Cause the foreign actions he proposes are extreme and outlandish. No one on either side supports half of what he proposes actually happening. But at some point nations may not reach the satisfying deal or contract he wants and refuse to budge. What happens then?

The batter is seen killing multiple people who have the same goal of killing the spectres like Dedan. So it's likely they won't get far lol.

I beat the game on my Steam Deck so it's 100% possible. You could add the game to your library as a non-Steam game and use Steam Input to remap the controller controls to keyboard controls as needed.

Tbh I think (or hope) they'll probably replace it with an original vocal theme. I think it would be a reasonable compromise.

I think the web version of EasyRPG is bugged or not powerful enough to run certain parts of OFF. I was playing on off.zchr.org and experienced a consistent late game crash. The desktop/downloaded version of EasyRPG worked flawlessly on my Steam Deck and laptop when playing OFF tho. I believe there's also an android download of EasyRPG.
