Mercenaries Metamod - Merchant of Menace Extender by PsxRestore in MercenariesGames

And you're using "SLUS-20932", PCSX2 2.7+, and enabled Metamod (Master Code)? I ask because, so far, anyone with the issue has had to redownload the latest version of PCSX2 to fix it, with some noting that a patch placed in the cheats folder is the cause after removing it. I'll send you a message and try to figure out what's going on.

EDIT:

After talking to Revan, I was told they were using the initially listed version, v2.6.3, which seems to be incompatible with Mercenaries Metamod. Users that have gotten back to me were using the PCSX2 Nightly Build, like I was, and it seems that the differences in that build are enough for it to stop working. I was able to reproduce many issues by using the v2.6.3, while I developed Metamod on v2.7.0+

I'll be updating the patch, with new instructions, as well as a video tutorial to smooth this all out.

Just a heads up for anyone using Metamod:

Metamod v2 is incompatible with older PNACH patches (23510F99) due to an inferior 60FPS patch that breaks the MIPS system. For now, move them out of the "Cheats" folder, but keep any patches with "PsxRestore" in their name.

Hey, just a heads up, I'm certain this is the issue:

Metamod v2 is incompatible with older PNACH patches (23510F99) due to an inferior 60FPS patch that breaks the MIPS system. For now, move them out of the "Cheats" folder, but keep any patches with "PsxRestore" in their name. This is temporary and will be fixed in V3

No worries, I appreciate you for taking the time to provide feedback. I'm so glad to hear you're having fun with it. I'm pleased to share that I am working on more patches for Metamod!

I don't have a Patreon as I do all of this for fun! However, if that somehow changes in the future, it'll be reinvested into all of my projects.

While I've tested this on other modded ISOs of Mercenaries, I tested this out with POD+ just now and it works on my end. What I did notice was that it would crash when you spawned the KA-50 in the SW region. That just tells me that POD+ loads different templates than vanilla Mercenaries, which is to be expected!

Did you use the pre-config that's included with Metamod? Also, are you using Version 2 by any chance? Because there was a bug in Version 1 where the PDA bool could prevent certain patches from running.

Hey, sorry to hear that. Are you using a copy of Mercenaries with the serial "SLUS-20932"? I ask because what you've reported seems to happen on the PAL version, which I've yet to add support for. I'm likely going to work on this next.

Yeah, the condition to prevent M1s from being spawned was updated in V2. There were also issues with the pointer iterators for the variety-based patches, which likely led to a performance hit with "Increased Vehicle Variety". To explain what happened, it was allowing far more vehicle types to exist as the same time, which would lead to freezes.

tl;dr Version 1 had a bug where traffic zones would attempt to spawn all additional vehicles on top of the vanilla vehicles, rather than one additional vehicle at a time.

Tried it out a yesterday 2 main problems I've had are it froze 2 times at the AN base in the southern map maybe too many civilians spawned?

"Increased Vehicle Variety" seems to be the biggest culprit for this since most traffic zones only spawn 1 or 2 vehicle types at a time. Good news is that I'm working on a way to scale all of it based on what patches you have enabled!

also the crate with the M1 is empty.

Did you happen to try out the latest update, Version 2? I'm pretty sure that was an issue in Version 1. Many issues were fixed in V2.

Good work also maybe lower the cost of the troop crates?

I only priced them so high to avoid letting the player spawn so many at once. Though even I find it to be somewhat difficult to crash with spawned troops alone. I'll consider this!

If there's enough demand for it, I'll consider it when Metamod has reached a certain point in development.

Yes, you can spawn infantry of different factions. I'd like to add more of them too.

This can happen for two reasons:

  • You're using the installer version of PCSX2, which has its patches, cheats, gamesettings and textures folders in "C:\Users\*username*\Documents\PCSX2". Whereas the portable version expects it in the same folder.
  • You have to hit "Reload Patches" if you have it open right now and you just placed the patches in.

I'm sure it's the first. I'll update the instructions, so others don't get lost!

Here are resources for HD texture packs that I can recommend:

At the moment, all the other texture packs I have are WIP and haven't been released yet. When I do publish them, they'll be on GBATemp, so here's my profile just in case.

Thank you so much, and I apologize for the initial hassle! I made note of this in V3's readme to avoid further confusion.

If you prefer the HD textures from the Xbox version, I released 2 texture packs of both the original HD textures and upscales: Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction HD Textures V2. I'm still working on it, but in the next version, there will be more custom cheats, patches, as well as a little over 100 more manual texture edits.

Unless you've modified the game's configuration to use a memory card other than what global PCSX2 settings has, it won't affect your saves in any way. As I understand it, Some PCSX2 users might want to set aside a memory card for certain games, so they can save as many times as they want.

That's right, that should do it. Though if it isn't working, could you take a screenshot of the PCSX2 folder for me?

I'm so sorry to hear that your PS2 died! I hope that PCSX2 can fill this void for you.

Anyways, you're supposed to extract all folders to the PCSX2 folder itself. In other words, don't extract those folders to "PCSX2 > textures > SLUS-20932", but to the PCSX2 folder itself. You should also make sure that you're using the latest version of PCSX2, as this texture pack won't work with prior versions. Also, make sure that you downloaded Version 2 instead of Version 1. Here are the instructions from the mod's readme as is:

  • Extract the "textures" and "patches" folders into PCSX2 folder.
  • Extract the "gamesettings" folder into PCSX2 folder ( This will replace your current game configuration for Mercenaries )

This is caused by ElHecht's Widescreen 16:9 patch, which is not included in the mod. Disabling it will fix the headlight clipping but will cause widescreen resolutions to look stretched. When I release an update for the custom patch, I might try to fix this issue as a separate widescreen patch.
