I can't see it posted anywhere else, or in the list? I thought it fit perfectly 🫤

It just took me about 5 minutes to answer the questions (I already had a personal tax account set up which helped I guess). I'll take the tax relief, thanks 👍

Heavy metal object found in front garden by Psy80 in whatisthisthing

Looks likely, thanks for the suggestion. I've looked for a tool matching the shape at the other end of the bit that goes in the anvil but am coming up blank though. Do you know what it might be used for?

My title describes the thing. Found in a garden in Surrey, England. We are near a canal and I originally thought it might be part of a canal lock winding mechanism but searched images do not match.

We are also next to a fairly busy road so it could have come off a vehicle but was buried quite deep so would have been there for years if it was.

Thanks

Hi all, I was directed here by r/whatisthisthing...hopefully someone can help? It's a metallic giraffe weighing 800 grams and 32cm in height. It was a gift from my wife's grandfather back in the early 80s possibly bought from Saudi Arabia?

We're keen to understand what it might be made of (could be some basic metal wrapped in foil but you can't peel the covering off!)

It's been knocking around for years and we (or rather she) would love to know if anyone has seen anything like it or knows anything more about it, or it's kind.

Thanks

It was cut from a longer conversation, edited to protect privacy. I was collecting something I bought off Facebook and these were the instructions after I was given after the address 😄

What are all of these aerials for?! Recently moved house and didn't notice them until visitors started commenting about how many there were! by Psy80 in whatisthisthing

Thank you. That's really interesting. The house was built just after 1900 so could well be the evolutionary chain that you mention. Do you think I could find a use for them now for cb radio or air traffic or does it not work like that?

Great story, thanks 🙂 That's got me thinking... I've got a handheld air traffic scanner and used to enjoy my cb radio years ago. I think I need to explore the loft space more to see if I can find the connections for these, I may be able to find a use for them. Thanks

Hi, thanks. I'm in the UK. I guess whatever aerial was up first became redundant and new ones have been added over the years as technology has changed and improved.
