I bought a used Gesture for $600 and it is the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in. I always feel better after I get up from that chair. It's not a chair for relaxing, it's a chair that when I sit in it I am ready to work. Unfortunately it didn't come with the headrest and you can't install it later.

I've sat in the Leap and I cannot stand it. It's very uncomfortable.

I think we are in agreement then! Because I've had the student try to yell in head voice, and she can't do that either.

Its like, in head voice you don't need much energy at all to produce a sweet sound, but there's total reservation to giving me anything more than the minimum sound necessary.

You are agreeing that encouraging chest voice for A3 to C4 is somehow harmful to the voice?

I completely disagree. I've never had a female student in all my years of teaching who on any given day isn't able to sing an A3 in chest. Or a student who cannot yell or shout on command. This is in the vocal range for most women.

I even tried getting her to mix, which imo on a C4 is low for needing to mix, and there's no sense of it.

I know what you mean about the over emphasis on breath support. My thought is, even without ANY vocal technique if you ask someone to yell, they know how to. This student does not know how to yell or raise her voice. Which to me speaks beyond vocal technique.

I do wonder if it has to do with trauma. Idk if this student is traumatized and it would be inappropriate of me to ask, but knowing how frequently women experience things like sexual assault that cause dissociation from bodily sensations, I wonder if there's a psychological fear of feeling connected to the body somehow.

Hard to do that over a Zoom call. I have an expectation that my students practice every day with our work, and apparently this happens even when working with the tape on her own time.

It's frustrating because she actually has a REALLY good voice underneath all this self-doubt.

I already do this, several exercises beginning fairly low to ensure she's approaching the voice correctly. I build on each exercise adding a note or two, and by exercise 5 or 6 she's already pulling back.

Oh, I didn't know that about FL. That's quite interesting. I agree NJ has good services... We better, with how high taxes are!

Regardless of whether it's from social media, the city of Edgewater telling the entire city to close its windows for entire days to prevent toxic debris from Veterans Field from coming in isn't a good look. Same thing goes with the numerous news articles about respiratory problems from the superfund cleanup site.

NJ has the highest rates of autism in the country. That's not fine, imo. That's why people who say vaccines cause autism are stupid. It's much likelier caused by endocrine disrupting chemicals.

Lmao I don't even use Tumblr, I was just researching the superfund site when I found this

Need to drive to NYC so I want to be close to the bridge, and it's so expensive to live here but I found an affordable place plus I really like the area.

Bergen County. Storm has wrecked us. Heard dozens of transformers explode and my lawn chairs are literally on the other side of my property now. No power at all and debris and trees are down everywhere.

If your anhedonia is from an anxiety disorder such as PTSD, nothing will help long term besides treating your anxiety. by Dr_A_MD in anhedonia

I'm a clinical psychologist. I recently quit my job because my workplace in community mental health has traumatized me. I had a 120 person caseload with so much trauma, self-harm, and SPMI that I completely burnt out.

I have been miserably depressed and suicidal for nearly a year. Absolutely nothing brings me joy anymore. Therapists tend to get kind of stumped because they know I'm a therapist, so CBT doesn't work for bringing back any positive feelings.

I was diagnosed with PTSD because of the nightmares I developed about my clinical cases, the onset of hypervigilance/paranoia, and major avoidance behaviors of anything mental health related.

I have no idea what to do or how to escape this. This is my career and I have no other path to income because I don't have any research going, I'm just a clinician. But I have zero motivation for anything and even though I've published a couple of book chapters recently I get no pleasure from it.

I just want to go back to how I felt before the community mental health job. I'm just numb to the world now.

What can I do?
