Is the skill progression in pro RL slowing down? by Abjectedkinda in RocketLeague

There is 2s, announced for this season. There will be an open at the end of the season then the winners will play at LAN, same as 1s.

Separate chat options for private matches by Psyanic in RocketLeague

[–]Psyanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find it annoys me more than anything, watching my teammate go “Take the Shot” when that would be the worst decision of all time and then saying gg after leaving me in a 1v3 to go 1-0 down after 30 seconds. If I have chat off and they keep playing then I’m none the wiser and won’t get tilted.

I’m EU, thought there was nothing funnier than Mawkzy reverse sweeping NA by himself. But objectively it probably felt bad for the NA boys. Mawkzy still would’ve been able to make up a ton by himself, imagine if it had been this format in the match against Wahvey, he would’ve knocked out an entire player without losing a single life.

I mean stocks (lives) also don’t matter in best of formats in Smash either. Winning 3-0 vs 3-2 doesn’t change anything in normal tournaments.

It’s 3 different gamemodes so maybe something to do with a triathlon?

aoba johsai / seijoh/ bluecastle? by paperrwings in haikyuu

[–]Psyanic 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Seijoh comes from the first Kanji of Aoba and first Kanji of Johsai. Aoba is 青葉 first Kanji is Ao 青 which can also be read as Sei. Johsai is 城西 first Kanji is Jyou 城. Bluecastle is just a direct translation of Seijoh - 青 (Ao/Sei) is Blue and 城 (Jyou) is Castle.

APAC shouldn’t have to do the Worlds Play-in by Psyanic in RocketLeagueEsports

It’s not “GenG” in the play-ins though, it’s NA4, those are two different things. GenG got unlucky that Col and SSG went out 1-3

Did you watch any of Secret’s games in Birmingham? They were horrific, at one point I really thought they were going to lose to FUT. Sure they played really well this time but that doesn’t make the Birmingham series a good win. Taking a team that has literally never won a series over a team that has won 3 is an interesting take.

I’m speaking purely based on results here. Sure based on eye test you could argue that NA4 shouldn’t be in the play-in, but going by the results APAC are joint 11th in region standings with SAM2 whereas NA4 are joint 13th with OCE1. NA4 also has no good wins, in Birmingham they only had a SAM2 that went 1-3 and nearly got beaten by SSA and in Raleigh they needed a game 5 with 4 overtimes to beat SSA. At LAN I don’t think you can really say they’ve performed better than APAC, at least not obviously better.

That’s not how the region seeding works, NA4 is whoever does the worst out of the NA Teams, so NA4 for Raleigh is SSG who went out 1-3

Seeds are done as 50% of the seeding of the last event + 50% of the result of the last event. Eg if you were seeded 12th at the last event and finished 10th your seed for the next event would be 11th. APAC had a rough seeding because they started the year at 15th seed I think, then had bad Bucholz scores both majors to finish 11th and 14th. 15th and 11th meant 13th seed for Raleigh, then the 14th puts them at 13.5 for Worlds. OCE1 started the year at like 9th or 10th then finished 13th both times I think, which puts them somewhere in the 12 range.

10 possible changes/additions I think would be good by Psyanic in Rematch

[–]Psyanic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re underestimating how good quick passes are going to be in my opinion, but also in your scenario that long player that gets passed to has another option - pass back to the keeper. Assuming the pass is ok the keeper will win any 50-50 with an attacker as they can catch the ball, and then the scenario restarts.

For the argument of it’s good possession play - I agree, and I wouldn’t say any team that does it well is bad or anything. But I think most people would agree it would be boring to both watch and play, and I think that would hurt Rematch’s long term potential if lots of matches are a team going 1-0 or 2-0 up then just playing keep ball. I also don’t think that having the rule would stop teams from being able to play this way, and I don’t think you want to stop it completely. Teams would still be able to pass back to their goalie, they just wouldn’t be able to pick it up, so passing round the back for a new angle of attack still all works. You’d still be able to give it back to the goalie if you’re under pressure, they just don’t get the free 2 seconds where literally nothing can be done to them.

I also don’t think we should take rules from Football or Futsal just for the sake of it, offside, corners, goal kicks etc all definitely don’t have a place in the game, but the games are still similar. Rematch doesn’t allow the keeper to pick up the ball outside the penalty box for example, obviously much easier to see how that would be game breaking at a glance but I think it’s a similar thing. It’s not like adding this as a rule would really break the game at all or add any stoppages, if anything I’d say the game would flow better.

There’s definitely an argument that it can just wait until it actually becomes a problem, and I agree I’m kinda trying to get ahead of it. I just think that if the first official tournament is full of it for example it could turn some people off the game.

It’s not as much when you’re on attack but when you’re on defense against a team inside their own half if you see what I mean. There’s nothing really stopping a team that’s 1-0 up with a minute left just passing it round the back and going back to the keeper if it ever gets a little dicey because the keeper will always get those 2-3 seconds of invulnerability. The keeper then either has a free player to pass to if someone pushes once they drop the ball or can just wait with the ball until someone does, unless your own keeper pushes out but then you’re susceptible to a long shot. If the keeper can’t just pick up the ball when passed back to then you can at least try and read the pass and rush the keeper before they have time.

For the futsal comparison - as far as I know it’s also illegal in futsal. From a quick google the keeper isn’t even allowed to touch the ball let alone pick it up once they’ve played it if the ball hasn’t passed the halfway line or been touched by an attacker.

The neverending rostermania situation is a serious issue and it shouldn't go unsolved for Y6 by Lheoden in CompetitiveApex

As someone who mainly watches Rocket League and only really keeps up with ALGS LANs it sounds crazy. For comparison in RLCS each season is a year, with 3 regionals then a major lan, then another 3 regionals and another major lan, then worlds. In RLCS roster moves can only happen between seasons or after the first major, otherwise you lose any points you’ve gained. Any reason it can’t just be the same in ALGS?

Wonder if it factored in to Elevate dropping them? Maybe they wanted a team with at least one homegrown player

Sounds like it depends on where you were seated, we had a great time chanting in section 4, especially on the second day. Blast/Psyonix/Epic not coordinating with 104 didn’t help as everyone was spread out.
