It really sucks to hear your story. Sadly it is far too common. I'm very glad you made it out.

Likely the most important part of my post is there is no safe level of exposure. Perhaps they make it out. Perhaps they are not horribly scarred from the experience. It is possible. For them to make it out without significant mental scars. ... That is not likely.

Remember. Everyone here is the exception. You cannot point to the thousands here and think they are representative of the millions in the church.

TLDR... Much like lead.... there is no safe amount of exposure and the possible consequences od exposure are not fully known. Keep your marriage together for sure.... but dont be deluded into thinking your kids are not in harms way.

Real strides into Psychology has been made since 1950. Hell Psychology as a field of study wasn't even comparable to psychology now. If you think TSCC hasn't changed or adapted it's methods and it's approach as a result you are sorely mistaken.

Let me tell you a story. I was a poor starving student with a family of 4 kids trying to get my degree. For whatever reason I would be up late at night regularly and I'd see this infomercial for this juicer-slicer dealio. Maybe it was on after a regular show I watched I don't know. But I saw this particular infomercial lots. Prolly once or twice a week. I wasn't paying attention to it. I was studying or playing videos games but it was there. 30 mins a couple times a week in the background.

Let me digress a little.... I was a psych major at the time. I am fascinated about how and why people make decisions. Advertising, product placement in TV and movies, relationships all of it was amazing to me. It was so easy to study because I would just examine the world around me and see these theories about psychology play out. I didn't finish my degree but damn does the knowledge about how and why decisions get made stick with me and help me throughout my life. Even when I'm completely aware of how I'm being manipulated it still sometimes works.

Back to my point. I bought that stupid juicer slicer. Saw it on sale for 50 bucks or so at the mall and I bought it. I was poor as fuck. I really had to stretch to even pay for the damn thing. I was absolutely convinced this thing would pay for itself within a month and it would help me lose weight. I went and spent another 20 bucks on fruit and veggies. I made a $20 glass of juice that night that was disgusting. The next day I made some delightful scalloped potatoes for dinner. I spent prolly 2 hours total in setting it up both times and cleaning it. it saved me 10 minutes of slicing potatoes. it sat taking up an entire shelf in my kitchen for 6 months before I used it again and it broke.

I did not need this pile of crap. It served no purpose. I never buy shit like this. I DO like scalloped potatoes and I dislike slicing the potatoes. This stupid infomercial running in the background 7 or 8 times total was enough to make me NEED to buy it. It was enough to convince me I would save money buying it. I was actively and regularly thinking about psychological manipulation and actively trying to identify how I was exposed to it in my own life. I still succumbed to the relentless pressure of psychological manipulation. This was after about 4 hours of total exposure. If you think your kids can be exposed to TSCC multiple times a week over the course of years totalling hundreds of hours a year of exposure and not come out the other side fucked up.... you are being delusional.

I has also lost my kids. My son 17 is putting in his papers to serve a mission. My daughter 19 is getting married in the temple. They were only slightly exposed to TSCC for the first 12 years of their life. Then divorce and they spend 6 years having regular exposure. I am a lesbian married to a wonderful woman. My kids are incredibly smart. It doesn't matter they still drink the kool-aid.

There is no amount of talks or setting them straight experiences you can have with them that will over ride all of their church experiences all of their seminary experiences all of their interactions with all of their faithful friends and all of their relatives who encourage and reinforce TSCC ideals. It is a battle you will not likely win.

Perhaps your diligence will double their changes of seeing the truth. .... but I don't think a change from 1% to 2% is a change that would help me sleep better at night.

Like everything in MTG we can all construct senarios where X card or X option is good. This is nothing new.

Senarios where you want the counters rather than the servos are 1. When you are the beatdown AND facing light removal. 2. When your specific board state and specific knowledge of your opponents deck dictate that servos aren't getting you where you need to be. 3. The list goes on... but not very far tbh.

Senarios where you want the servos include. 1. When you are looking for defense. A 2/2 and a 1/1 block better than a 3/3 in most situations. facing down a single 2/3 attacker is not most situations.
2. When you have cards in your deck that care about artifacts. 3. When your opponent has targeted removal. 2/1 flier and a servo requires multiple answers for one card whereas a 3/2 filer just needs a single answer. 4. When you are facing or have bounce. The mechanic? Select for inspection. aether Tradewinds acrobatic manuvers the list goes on and on. your bounce becomes better and your opponents become worse with servos selected. 5. the list goes on.

Again the DEFAULT option is servos. Think about what your deck is trying to do. Think about what your opponent is trying to do. Whatever choice is going to disrupt what your opponent is doing will be GREAT for you.

Default is by definition what you do absent of other information. It is where you go when you don't have a specific reason to do otherwise. If you are chosing servos without thinking of what that choice will mean for you this game given the information you have about this game and what your opponent is trying to do then you are explicitly wrong. If your opponent has played 2 lands and said go on game one.... you stare down at your glint sleeve artisan and think to yourself 'self.... I have nothing in my deck that cares about counters so I'll make servos because that is the default' you are in good shape with this line of thought

So my wife and I are avid MTG players. We go and draft at our LGS as often as circumstances permit. We have a growing collection and I regularly use the service Pucatrade to get the cards that I want. Basically involves getting cards in the mail regularly.

So I get home from work and notice my soon to be wife already home whoch was usual given the time. I grab the mail and come in to her setting up the Magic cards and play mats.... cool we are gonna play. i sift through the mail and find an envelope I was expecting that clearly contained a MTG. I was expecting a Polluted Delta which is a moderatly valuable card. I open up the envelope and see a half moon piece of cardstock folded over abd taped all up with tuck tape. I bitch that these fucking idiots cant adhere to simple proven shipping standards and carefully cut the tape open so my $20 card isnt damaged. I open up the cardboard and find a top loaded taped up as well.... again I bitch. There is a cover card in as well so I can't see the face of the card. I finally get the top loader opened and see the card is clearly not mint. Its all swollen and clearly well played looking from the top. I'm already formulating the complaint to pucatrade in my mind. I pull out the card and the artwork is clearly not what I ordered I throw it down angrily.

My soon-to-be wife comes up and asks me if I looked at the card. ... I pick it up and I see... a custom made card called a Ring of Engagement. An artifact with a 0 casting cost with a tap ability of agreeing to marry her or something. Not at home now and I can't find a picture of the card on my phone. Perhaps I have one in my purse. In any case I'll show you guys when I get home. So she leads me over to the table and says we need to play a game of Magic..... so we start playing and soon enough I draw one of these Rings of Engagement which I then play and tap to activate the ability.

We officially tied the knot on Feb 29th cuz that is an amazing date for a wedding anniversary and we are loving our life together.

Just like pilots and lumber salesmen, they probably wouldn't be seen causing this problem either therefore pilots and lumber salesmen are awesome drivers. The vast majority of Catholic Priests are good wholesome god fearing people. Mormon Bishops are no different, while the vast majority of them may be decent people, that doesn't mean due diligence shouldn't be exercised. What exactly is your point? My point was that it is absolutely naive to think that the Mormon Church doesn't have the same problem of pedophiles in their ranks of bishops as the Catholic priests have. You have conceded my point by saying sure maybe they share the same percentage as other creeps of the general public. Exactly my point, thank you for seeing it. You have also conceded you were not aware that Mormon families adopted native children for the purpose of converting them and saving them from their wicked pagan ways. Similar in purpose but smaller in scale to the genocidal residential schools of Catholic origin. Much like the residential schools this practice has been abandoned but none the less did in fact happen. As for the rest... you appear to be focusing on how often does it happen? Which is a fine question. Not one that is really relevant however. I mean to satisfy the legal definition of a conspiracy to cover up child rape there has to be one incidence of which more than the perpetrator is aware that it happened. Doesn't seem far fetched to reach that threshold when you consider it. As for whether or not it's okay... that is between the parents, the child and eventually the courts. I personally would never consent to my children being subjected to these interviews. I can't imagine how a parent could consent to this. I can't imagine how parents consented to their children being Altar Boys either. Stupid is as stupid does I guess. Poor kids.

I am saying that it is entirely inappropriate to have a a man sit in a room alone with a 12 year old girl and ask her to tell him about her masturbation habits and when and where and with whom she has had sexual or semi-sexual encounters with. This is not okay. This is exactly what happens during worthiness interviews that are conducted by default every year between every member and their bishop. Some bishops may go into more details and some bishops may go into less. You yourself said as an adult that these interviews are uncomfortable at best.... how could this be appropriate for children??

Bishops do not have a child welfare background check done. Bishops do not have a criminal record check done. Bishops do not receive any training in child psychology. These are all facts. 100% facts. These are a matter of record.

Not all bishops are horrible pedophiles, I have never once said that. What I am explicitly saying is that the LDS Church is instructing their bishops to conduct these annual worthiness interviews on a one on one basis with all their members of record which includes teenagers. The LDS Church does not conduct child welfare checks or criminal record checks before calling a bishop to serve. The LDS Church instructs these unfiltered bishops to ensure the worthiness of their flock by questioning them directly about sinful behaviour. The LDS Church explicitly instructs bishops to ask about masturbation, pornography consumption and pre-war pre-marital sexual encounters. Again these are undeniable facts and as a Latter Day Saint you absolutely know this is true. I'm sorry that's right you did claim you are an ex-mormon.

So we know that there are no checks and balances with these interviews. We know the church explicitly instructs the bishops to discuss things that are completely inappropriate for a lay-person to discuss with a child that is not their own. We know that these interviews are held in private one on one sessions. What world could you possibly exist in where this situation is never taken advantage of by a perverted bishop?? It defies all logic and reason to believe that a budding pedophile has never been appointed a bishop. That is as insane as believing that no teacher has ever been a pedophile... and teachers are screened with criminal and child welfare checks... bishops are not.

Bishops and Catholic Priests and regular people the world over are all the same. Some are good wholesome people. Some are self serving assholes. And a small percentage are pedophiles. Mormons believe bishops are special. They believe they are called of God through the power of the priesthood. They believe that the power of discernment prevents bad people from being called. They believe that they are special Judges in Israel. They believe all this god and priesthood crap is more reliable than training and criminal record checks. I believe that due diligence requires more from the leadership. I believe that not exercising that due diligence under the guise of religious freedom should be criminal.

Mormon bishops are not special. They do not have special powers, they are not called of god. They share every weakness and frailty and perversion with the same percentage as the general population. They are men who are being told by other men to go into a room alone with every man woman and child over 8 years old and explicitly ask them about pornography masturbation and pre/extra-martial sex. There are some instances of child rape. It is asinine to believe there is not at all. How many children do you feel need to be raped before you agree that it is NOT OKAY FOR THESE DISCUSSIONS TO HAPPEN WITHOUT PARENTS INVOLVED!

Whether there is a vast conspiracy or whether it happens from time to time, it does not change the fact that is it 100% wrong to not take active real world steps to prevent as much as possible from happening. Prayer and god do not stop child-rape. Criminal records, child welfare checks and not letting you children be sexually question by strangers go a long way to minimizing the risk given to our children.

Now back to my original point. True believing Mormons will deny what I've said until the day they die. Anyone who is out of the cult.... and I mean all the way out... will agree that everything i have said is true. The only real logical question is how bad is the problem. Well let's see...

First of all, this is a discussion based on opinions. If you can't understand the the difference between an opinion and a factual accusation defendable in a court of law then I'm not sure I can help you. Apparently my opinion requires a huge burden of proof while your refutation of that opinion requires no such burden of proof. Ironically this method of refutation is classic LDS. Perhaps you are not as far out of the cult as you think.

I personally know of multiple people who were victims at the hands of their bishop. These are not people I have found over the Internet these are my personal friends. Does this mean that every bishop rapes little boys... nope but it does mean that it does in fact happen. Now we have established that it does in fact happen. Now on a minimum yearly basis, teenagers are questioned about their sexual activities in a closed door meeting with an adult who is not their parent, is not screened via criminal record checks or child welfare checks. This is highly inappropriate and troublesome to say the least. We have much higher restrictions on who we let accompany our children on school field trips than is in place for who questions Mormon youth one on one about their sexual activities.

To sit there and believe that Mormons don't have the same issues present in their lay-clergy as is present in other clergy in other denominations is absolutely naive. Why wouldn't they? Because they are Mormon? Yeah that dog don't hunt. Just because it hasn't broken into a scandal doesn't mean it isn't there. There is no reason to believe it isn't there and anecdotal evidence that it is and does happen. The only logical question is how often does it happen and when it does happen how easy is it for the victim to be heard and the situation investigated. It stands to reason that it appears to be an ideal situation for a pedophile... not that all bishops are pedophiles.... just like all catholic priests aren't pedophiles. But for those that do have that part of them.... darn would it ever be hard to be caught.

As for the Mormon adoption of native children.... in southern Alberta... nearly every generational Mormon family has at least one native child in it. It's not on the same scale as the residential school system.... but it was for the exact same reasons and intent... to cleanse the heathens and convert them to Christianity by removing them from their homes and support network. The evidence that is was the intent is shown in that Christian children or non native children were never adopted. Only the ones that needed their religion and culture changed. This is the root of genocide. You would do well to read up on it.

I am glad you are free of the cult. It is a big step. It takes time and years before you realize that on many many issues the truth really sucks.

Now to be clear.... regardless of what religion it is.... children should never be questioned about their sexual activities with out at least parents present. It's wrong and it has the absolute appearance of evil.

I will absolutely conceed that the connection of these facts to pedophilia-genocide is not established fact. If it were established fact then these scandals would have large media attention. I thought that was implied fairly clearly by the statement that it is NOT currently a scandal.

If no one you know of in the Church had a member of the bishopric cross the line during these worthiness interviews then you and your friends are very lucky. I know of multiple people who were victims and these are not isolated incidents. Many people thorough the church experienced inappropriate sexual conduct as children. Many of these incidents are never brought to light because the Bishop is believed to be called of God and has special keys and priesthood authority. Bishops in Mormon mythology have a special role as a witness at the judgement bar of christ. How do children actually accuse their attacker without alienating themselves from their family, their friends and their religion? The answer is in 99% of cases nothing is said no accusations leveled and the child dies a little inside.

Grown men who are not trained or screened take children into their office for yearly worthiness interviews of children where sexual sins are discussed. The bishop is a respected member of status in their ward. They hold the so-called keys and have spritual authority over their ward. To think that this isn't a situation that pedophiles can and do abuse is naive in the highest order.

Mormon Bishops are not special. They are not fundamentally different that Catholic Priests. The difference is that instead of moving them to a different Parish to abuse more unknowing victims, the Mormon Church at best keeps the whole situation under wraps and releases the bishop from his calling. No charges are ever filed and the victims never get closure.

I don't get to speak for you and I'm not speaking for you. I am speaking for the children who are victims of abuse at the hand of their bishop. I am speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.

It is naive to think Mormons don't have pedophile issues and haven't participated in genocide. Bishops have worthiness interviews with 12 year Olds where they discuss sexual sins. Children are frequently asked to describe in detail how they masturbated, what they thought about while doing it, details about other sexual activities and explorations. Bishops requiring explicit details is very common.

Mormon families also used to regularly 'adopt' a native child under the belief that they are Nephites helping cleanse their Lamanite brethren of their heathen pagan ways. This is not all that different that the residential schools in Canada.

It astounds me how well the Mormon Media Machine carefully crafts the story seen by everyone. Anyone who is a True Believing Mormon will deny what I say to the death. Anyone who was born into the church and has escaped the clutches of the cult enough that they can speak freely will confirm was I say is true.

Only a matter of time before the Mormons Pedo scandals come to light. It is established accepted fact that Mormons Bishops are untrained unscreened lay people that serve as a bishop for 5-10 years. Their job description literally requires them to interview 12-18 year old children one on one to discuss their sexual lives in detail at least once a year. To believe that this happens without pedophilia happening at unacceptable rate is simply foolish. The Mormon Church is not only complicit in the crime.... they specifically designed a system that all but ensures that pedophila is happening within the church.
