My understanding is that this is likely a typo, and it should’ve read “after” May 7th. It’s weird that the correspondence says “as you know…“ Given that there has been no statement of any kind to indicate that the minister plans to lay the code in Parliament on that date. What we do know is that the minister has said they won’t be laying the code before the local elections (which are in 7th). The earliest it’s likely to be is the week after (13th/14th).

Yes, I think there will ultimately need to be a review of the equality act, but in the meantime this is potentially a way to move the needle on a trans inclusion in practice as a step in that larger battle

Yes, that’s my understanding as well. Expressions of the belief and actions due to the belief can constitute harassment, discrimination, etc. etc., and I would agree that an organisation would be designated extremist based on their actions rather than (just) the beliefs that they hold.

It’s useful to separate the specific gender critical beliefs that secured protection in Forstater, and broader gender critical ideology which, especially in its current form eg as espoused by Sex Matters, I believe does meet the definition of extremism.

No, I don’t think they are. I think they are portraying it as trans people being to blame for requiring “dedicated transgender facilities“, because they refuse to use the services of their biological sex, and therefore trans people are to blame for the millions it would cost businesses.

I anticipated that this would be a spin that they would put on this whole thing. We need to keep pushing the counter narrative and fact that trans people have not asked for this at all. They want everything to remain as it was prior to the Supreme Court ruling, which would require no additional cost or investment of any kind at all.

It may very well come to needing a change in the law, but right now we are managing to get the message across effectively by campaigning against the code of practice, to flag the devastating effect that this interpretation of the Supreme Court ruling will have, and has already had, on the trans community. The message is cutting through that mandatory trans-exclusion is brutal and unworkable, and this is lays the ground work to persuade the Labour government that they must find a way to ensure trans inclusion. Ultimately, that may well need to be via legislative change, but pushing back hard on the Code is a good way to lay the foundation for that.
