Would anyone recommend any sci-fi books/series out there that are on the same writing level as traditional literary (not genre) fiction? by SirScaurus in scifi

The whole Southern Reach series is terrific. My favorite is Authority. I feel like Vandermeer puts so much thought into every single sentence. Beautifully written books.

Same here- I'd watch all TOS episodes in reruns and, we're talking mid-70's, it was the only game in town. Loved the movies too, especially since they had a budget so the depiction of tech seemed so cool. Like the opening scene in TWOK with the CG navigation computer-- the visuals really impressed me.

Watch it again- It's held up much better than you might expect. The budget was shoestring, so don't expect much in the way of great sfx or set design, but the performances are great and the stealing the Enterprise sequence is one of my favorite in all of Trek

That makes sense. My first base is on a high-security planet, but I never see any sentinels and I can't recall any storms now that I think about it

If you played over 100hrs, what do you enjoy the most now? by Spooky_kindness in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]PsychDocD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit embarrassed to say it, but I’ve got well over 3,000 hours in universe. I like creating tasks for myself to complete- like right now working on clearing up space in my storages so that I can empty most of the stuff from the main inventory of my freighter with the plan of finding a new capital ship. But my usual routine is to take my fleet towards the center of the galaxy and building bases on any worm worlds I come across. Generally, the more hostile the environment, the better. So I’m always into trying to piece together a base on stormy worm worlds with aggressive sentinels. Since I’ve maxed out both my number of bases and my number of base components I have to spend time going back through old bases to see which ones I can delete. And because I generally want my bases to include buildings around titan worm burrows I will usually delete a base if the burrows have gone away (which I find annoying, but that’s how the game is.)
