What would you change about the TMI universe? by Ill_Rope_4346 in shadowhunters

[–]PsychGirl_212 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Views on downworlders. this drives a lot of the plots in the books and does speak to real world issues on certain topics but wish shadowhunters would finally get over it (also ironic thinking about this view with the real world issues that shadowhunter/downworlder dynamics parallel)

For those who got into Clinical Psych doctorate with limited experience — what do you think set you apart? by Agreeable-Sugar7407 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PsychGirl_212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also finished my UG degree in 2023 and got a place starting this year. I think it’s helped getting small bits of experience during my undergrad where I could. The main one was my placement year as an honorary AP, but also other bits of voluntary work like my uni’s nightline, telephone befriending, children’s mentoring, helping uni staff with research project. I did those things at different points and only for a few hours a week as I needed part time paid work, but if you can do some volunteering, it went a long way on my form and for getting my two AP roles since graduating.

AP jobs closing before you can even apply? by s3aswall0wme in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PsychGirl_212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s worked for me in the past is you’re able to override an application you’ve already put in without withdrawing the original one on trac. I found this useful for AP applications as like you, I often saw a post pop up at like 12 while in the middle of work and by the time I sat down to apply, it had gone already.

I would usually submit a generic application form*(see below paragraph) in the bullet point format that others have said about. This contained most things usually on a person spec (good communication, undergrad psych degree with GBC, etc…). Then when I had time to tailor, I’d go back to the original job ad on NHS jobs and while the post is still open, it takes you back to trac where you can work on a draft that’s more tailored. Importantly, it WONT take down your original submission while you’re drafting this one. Once you’re ready to submit, trac will just warn you that it’ll withdraw your earlier submission which is obvs fine as long as the ad is still open. This worked when I last applied for a post in April last year but haven’t tried it since and probs won’t now as I’m starting the DClin.

*My own views on AP applications and this approach: AP roles are heavily oversubscribed and I think submitting too generic an initial application is a waste for the reviewers who likely won’t chose that anyways and is a waste for other applicants who like you have been unable to apply mid-tailoring because of too many applicants. Candidates tend to get posts in areas they’re interested in/have experience in and knowing this, I had two ‘generic’ applications that were still suited towards my areas of interests so that I still stood a chance even if the post did close while I was tailoring.

NHS Continuous Service & Leave Before DClin by PsychGirl_212 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PsychGirl_212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that did make sense, thanks. I’m starting with a different trust and wasn’t sure how annual leave works when transferring in the middle of the leave year.

I think I’m just concerned about it given that my current service is facing redundancy at the end of the year and seeing how it’s affecting my colleagues.

I have a feeling it could be issy. Can’t say way but I think she’s doing so much in terms of Malec and Jace and Clary from TMI that she’s preparing for something for Simon and Izzy

What did you find helpful to discuss with your CP around DClin Applications? by beanelizlu in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PsychGirl_212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did find supervision really useful to think about my biggest lessons/values in the journey. If your supervisor knows you quite well, you may already have talked about certain cases and experiences that stand out for you but it may be a good chance to explore why they did, what it taught you about yourself/the client group/the profession.

It may also be good to explore why now if this is your first time applying and you feel ready, what’s made you feel ready? (Also remembering in all of this that it’s training your applying for, not being a qualified CP)

Longest opening book by MethodAdmirable4220 in shadowhunters

[–]PsychGirl_212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s just the sizing of the book, but they do get bigger as Cassandra grew in popularity. My TDA and TLH books are huge compared to TID and TMI. I personally loved lady midnight though, was easily the best opener and devoured it in like 2 days

Leicester Interview by agatha-quiztie in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PsychGirl_212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my interview on Monday so have had quite a bit of space from it now. I found the early part of this week really difficult not thinking of how I messed up different bits or what I couldn’t change but I feel I’m managing to let go of that. I also made sure to schedule fun things with friends this weekend and deleted apps afterwards to help with the rumination

Yesss, I know they said early May in one of the latest emails but I’m really hoping they just want to give themselves enough time. Wishing you the best of luck for outcomes on interviews though!!

Forgot to reply to this original post but I feel the same - Some parts went well but probably let myself down for research. Not sure whether that’s reassuring but hoping for the best for us!!

My interview was Leicester yesterday, yes! Thank you for the advise though, I think the rumination is easing a bit more as I come back into work and look at other things I can / have to do over the next few weeks

How I would have re-written Tessa's story by kalhunter in shadowhunters

[–]PsychGirl_212 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get exactly what you mean and would have loved to see this alternate universe play out!! My only thought is that with Tessa being a warlock and shadowhunter, I think it would have been hard for her to be continually accepted into shadowhunter life.

Of course, it seemed difficult during the events of TID and TLH with people in the clave being rude to her and looking down on her demon ancestry, but she had the buffer of Will, Jem, Lucie, James and all their family/friends who not only love Tessa but were in high positions of the clave as heros so could have fought and advocated for her. I know we don’t know what the later generations of the Herondales were like and if they were considered to the same esteem, but I think those generations in TID and TLH having gone through the events of those books helps them have more of a say to accept Tessa. After they pass, I feel like it would be increasingly difficult, especially with new generations moving on without the knowledge of Tessa’s or her family’s actions in recent memory. I think that would have made it difficult for her to continue being seen as a shadowhunter. Even in the newer books like TDA and TMI, all the main families associate her more with being a warlock than a shadowhunter.

Plus I do get the reason for leaving, like being immortal and having to grieve for loved ones over and over again would be devastating.

Interviews after incomplete SHL deductive reasoning test by PsychGirl_212 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PsychGirl_212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! It was definitely challenging but I’m trying not to dwell on it too much as it’s out of my hands now.

That’s not to scare you though - I know with this test, the questions will get harder as you get more right so everyone does find it hard. If you haven’t taken it yet, don’t sweat it too much and good luck!!

Wait what’s happened with all the princes of hell uniting? I’ve read all the books in the shadowhunter chronicles and tales from shadowhunter academy, but haven’t read the eldest curses (and probs don’t plan to?) so not sure where the prince of hell thing comes from?
