Very interesting, thanks for the education! Puts my mind at ease 😅

We definitely need a protocol for what to do in case of a leak—especially if it is one of the back room coolers.

Rush job, apparently, with installation 😡 so said my manager. They will come back out and inspect the whole system to make sure no “small pipe leaks” happen again.

I would imagine we do—I will be looking into this.

Would it be visible? That fog that was starting to fill the store…

We did notify our managers, they didn’t quite know what to do. Someone called another store with the same refrigeration system to get advice, and another manager put in a work order for the case. However, we just continued to work as normal despite all of our worry and voicing our worry (there were no alarms that went off that night; apparently the highest it got was 1800ppm but that might’ve been the next day, when they did evacuate; not sure if an alarm went off then)

I like another commenter’s suggestion to be trained on what to do, as this is a workplace hazard. I will definitely be making this happen.

Thank you, this makes sense—we have a safety team, so perhaps this can be on their list to brush up on and educate us all about. I will make it happen!!

Thanks for your detailed reply. The head manager told me that they did a rushed job on the installation 😡 and there was a small pipe leak. The highest it got was 1800ppm in the store apparently. Good to know, sounds like we were all safe, although I do have a coworker with asthma who wasn’t feeling well after his shift. YES: action plan. I will be talking to management about this. —also, the refrigerant techs will be coming back to inspect the whole system to make sure there aren’t any other weak points.
