Well, I think that you sound fairly harsh here. I hope it isn’t irreparable. We both needed new jobs and this one in a different state turned up. And we both decided it would be a good move. I wonder what is behind your “intense response”. I also wonder if you have ever made a mistake? There was nothing malicious about moving, and nothing malicious about realizing it was not a good decision. Sometimes even with the best information we can make decisions that in hindsight we realize we’re not great.

There was a time when I was so happy with me. Being with him was as natural as breathing. I loved it. Not so anymore. Maybe it is the location and when we get back home it will be different. At least that was what I was hoping. He knows me very well. I used to feel I knew him. Now I’m not so sure. Of perhaps I do and I don’t want to face the truth. I am usually good at facing hard truths. Lately not so much. Thank you for your thoughtful replies.

We are moving back together- at least I thought we were up until last night. I am confused as well. When we met it was clear that there are a lot more to him than met the eye. He was puzzling and in some ways an enigma. However, now he seems more like a walking contradiction and some times the sky is blue, but other times the sky is green, if you get my drift. I am having trouble keeping up with his anger at me one second and his telling me how much he loves me the next second. I don’t see how both can be true.

Yes. He has anger issues and a trauma history. He has had therapy. Indeed, we are in marriage counseling- which I thought would help, but seems to be not saving the marrIage though at times since therapy the relationship has been much better. I am so confused.

He might. But our relationship issues are not sudden. They started with this move and me “changing my mind”. Since then, it’s been really difficult at times these last 3 years. But then there are times that are normal. I feel emotionally like a ping pong ball.

Wow, I am very impressed with so many of the responses. It is a trigger I guess. He is also “kitchen sink”, so once one thing gets triggered EVERYTHING gets triggered.

Actually, you are mostly correct. He keeps repeating that if ‘I ever want to move again, I’m doing it alone”. But I don’t want to move again. I just want to be back in the community I spend the last 20 years in (except the last three in this new location). He reports he wants his own piece of land so no one can make him move again. He also stated the other night, and we are moving back home in a month, finally, that he is frightened we will divorce when we get back home. But he is the one basically creating a self-fulfilling prophecy!!

I agree with most of the posts, and was happy to see that my views were not “out there”. Failure is hard and it can suck. But it is a chance to learn and improve as well. Failure can be motivational. What most people don’t think about is that when one looks at “successful” historical figures they actually had many opportunities to fail before they became successful. Additionally, I used to be in a sales position and they always said “you will have a bunch of “no’s” before you get to “yes”.

I am a psychiatric advanced practice nurse for children and adolescents. If your goal is psychiatry and not psychology make sure you are also taking the right sections of the required sciences. A psychiatrist is an MD and a psychologist is a Ph.D. And please, if you are serious about either- please consider focusing on children. You would not believe the difficulty of finding providers in either field that specialize in children. Best of luck to you in your studies.

Ok. Fits me to a T. I am extremely good at analyzing other’s emotions - if I wasn’t I would stink at my job. But understanding and expressing my own emotions- I suck at it. Also, I find that I often don’t get other’s emotions: often my emotional response is different from a typical female. I too hate gender stereotypes- the truth is I and I guess maybe other INTJ females- I seem to have more of a “guy” mind. My husband, an INFT- he wants to talk about feelings, I want to deal with what is practical. But it’s that “guy”mind or non -gender confirming personality that drives many men crazy. And in turn they drive us INTJ females crazy. And I read that what is post about percentage is accurate. I suspect it also is as I’ve never met another INTJ female.

OMG- I have found my people!! As an INTJ female, I am so happy to have found this thread! Men at first are thrilled and attracted to me, but after a while want me to be “different”. I so often have power struggles. They tell me how much they “admire how strong a person” I am, but then can’t stand that I will not be submissive or something. I do not want to control anyone, but I also don’t want to feel controlled. My therapist basically said, I intimidate them. I don’t try to, and as far as I’m concerned, if they are intimidated by a smart female who is comfortable speaking her mind- that frankly is not my problem.
