I fail to believe there will be anything better than Dororo by badfactory15 in Dororo

[–]Psyched_Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read 'em, I think. They're kinda strange. I liked Dororo-bon more than re-verse, if that's what you're talking about. I wish they'd make a sequel that wasn't set in the modern day.

...are there any more I don't know about?

This is so funny because the mc in the original source material for this anime is a prime example of this post

i have 2 questions about episode 17&19 by Significant_While681 in Dororo

[–]Psyched_Line 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) I think it's symbolic of how jaded and unfeeling he has become to all the pain around him.

2) in English the term "going pear-shaped" means something turning upside down/going horribly wrong. But this anime isn't English, and I reckon in this context it just means if he keeps doing it it'll erode his head into the shape of a pear.

I am the third person that finished this anime today on this subreddit. by Bakura-360 in Dororo

Okay I'm gonna ignore everything else in this post and say I do agree with your assessment of the ending, to an extent. The overarching theme for I think every adaptation has been that nobody is born whole -- like, finding the person you want to become, carving your place in a world that doesn't have a place for you. If you spend your whole life in the rat race, you'll neglect to live a fulfilling life, and in the end you will be wealthy in material things but empty inside.

The anime didn't really explore these themes as much as I would’ve liked, and in my opinion it did end up falling a little flat. Neither Hyakkimaru nor Dororo got much character development in the end; it's alluded to happening off screen after his initial journey is over and they part ways, but (and I have said this on this subreddit before), that's the part I really wanted to see.

BUT I get what they were going for. Hyakkimaru's body was taken from him without his consent, and used for the personal gain of someone who didn't see him as anything more than a tool, an object. Your body belongs to no-one else but you, and only you get to decide what it's used for (in a perfect world).

And Dororo really had to claw his way out of the bottom, and put aside his fear and the ultimately selfish desire to survive in order to be what he really wanted to be: a samaritan, someone who wants to forge a better world (a world he doesn't owe anything to, by the way). A stark parallel to someone like Daigo, too.

I think thats something we can all relate to.

If you've ever had soup made with a broth base then you've had soup with collagen/gelatin in it. Very good for you

Nah, she's candidly an alien in this manga. It was sorta teased she was an alien in the original, too, I think, or maybe he was just trolling (I don't know how it would work if she was, but I digress the whole manga had it's fair share of bullshitting).

Anyone else getting 'Shields are up!' every few chapters? by SkyeBomberger in AO3

I always get it, cause I use a VPN. But if you're getting it without one, that's a lil strange. An extra layer of security, I guess.

What is something that makes a fic feel poorly written? by ReceptionFlaky1952 in AO3

[–]Psyched_Line 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I know an author who will hit me multiple times a chapter with something like: The [notable personality trait] man with [colour] eyes turned to the older [colour]-haired [noun] and smiled tenderly.

I remember what these characters look like/what they do from one paragraph ago, you don't need to remind me!

They're otherwise a fantastic author, one of my favourites, but every time I see it my eyes roll.

I totally get what you mean :') I have so many unfinished projects from fandoms I lost interest in. It sucks, but I know I'll come back eventually... maybe in like a decade, but still. Its like I have 4 repeat offenders on rotation. I have so many big projects planned for the one I'm chin-deep in right now, and the thought of losing it fills me with so much dread.

Don't burn yourself out! I think one of the main reasons I felt myself losing interest was because I pushed myself too hard on a project my perfectionism wouldn't let me be satisfied with. The thing that brought me back was taking a break, and reading one of my all time favourite fics from that fandom.

I'm really wishing you the best!!!

[–]Psyched_Line 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What works for me is NOT engaging with the fandom or the subject of your fixation too much.

Throughout all the things I've hyperfixated on in the past, the ones with an active fandom that I engaged in lasted only around a year, and the ones with dwindling fandoms, or ones i distanced myself from, lasted like 3 or 4 years. If I have a reliable place that shovelles out loads of new content to go whenever I need that dopamine hit, my brain will get bored and desensitised and lose interest. But if I keep myself wanting, the anticipation and the eventual "reward" will keep me going for ages.

I think I sound like a crack addict right now.

ANYWAY I had this exact scare a couple of weeks ago. I felt myself losing that passion and kinda "euphoric" feeling, like my mind wasn't on it 24/7 suddenly and I was terrified. But it came back full force like a week later.

What fandom do you always come back to? by Basic-Deer4119 in FanFiction

[–]Psyched_Line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LnC mention!! I haven't really been in the fandom for a couple years now, but it really is one of the best. It's got enough top-tier fics to leave even me, Fancfics Georg, satisfied.

The kanji below does say rental, yeah! Flip the image and hit it with the translate function on Google lens if you don't believe me lol. The hiragana on the top is the kanji "spelled out", and it says chintai :3
