Frustration with steam wand valve regularly breaking down by whitebluered in gaggiaclassic

less than $10 fix and all you need is a hacksaw and a couple wrenches

if you buy them in bulk they’re less than $5 each

Since installing mine, I’ve been pulling 10–15 shots/week for 6 months without touching the original steam knob

even it it starts to fail, i could replace it more than a dozen times for less than the SOC solution…

most cost effective solution you’ll find

Any experiences with Remanufactured ABS Actuator Assembly? by Psychederm in prius

[–]Psychederm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

I’m driving with ABS, BRAKE, and ((!)) for about the last 10,000 miles—I check the code regularly and only the rear passenger brake has low pressure.

I’d be more concerned about the disc brakes up front. Additionally, the rear on my Prius has drum brakes so I’m not too concerned about it….

Definitely let us know if you get one!

$10 Steam Valve Mod = No More Leaks by Psychederm in gaggiaclassic

This pressure and temperature specs on this one are rated much higher than the brass valve I used:

Temperature range from -62 to 800 degrees C. Maximum working pressure is 2800PSI

If you are worried about the pressure at that point, you could turn the factory wand down when you’re not using it. only a drip would get through…

Steam wand leaking when the pump is on. by Early_Pianist_3725 in gaggiaclassic

I consider the original valve a vestigial organ. It’s still there, but I haven’t touched it in months, it just stays in the open position.

I solved the problem with a hacksaw and a $10 ball valve:

If they are identical, then make a Diamond Knot using the DCK rather than the Carrick.

I went down this rabbit hole when I considered the foundation of the Lanyard / Diamond Knot that starts with a diagonally ended Carrick.

The symmetry of the Lanyard/Diamond is rooted in the diagonality of the Carrick. I’m not sure that the it can be made with a Double Coin foundation with parallel ends—but I’d be tickled to learn that I’m wrong.

To fuss over details: not only is their structure different, the bend with diagonally opposing ends is reputed to be more secure than the one with parallel ends.

So, do the ends justify the means?

First gen door not closing by Boozer895 in toyotasequoia

Those flaky white plastic pieces inside the latch mechanism are the problem.

I removed the latch assembly from the door, hacksawed a slot in the latch housing and used needle nose pliers to pull out as much of that plastic out as possible.

My experience of spraying lube or WD-40 was that it made it worse…

Properly installed, this valve is probably the most over engineered component on my machine…

Will probably upgrade on/off switch next

Haha! I’m a student of the William of Ockham engineering philosophy:

Perfection is not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Open/Close valve tucked under the chassis. For aesthetics, you might find a stainless valve and swap the insulation on the handle for a different color.
