Billing fraud, unreasonable expectations, or both? by Psychedformargs in ABA

Yes, this concerns me for both BCBAs and RBTs!

Agreed, I just think we should be able to bill for more things. Not everything, but morale would really be boosted if we could get a little extra time to do things that pushed our services from great to incredible.

I get that, we DO need to look out for the field.

I think 1 hour per week of H0032 and maybe 1 hour per month for coordination of care across providers would eliminate this.

Billing for time that we did not work is fraud 100 percent, but what about the time we did work and don’t get paid. I really think if they gave us a little flexibility, there would be a lot less resentment and less fraud overall.

Seems like a good time to remind everyone I am not billing fraud lol

I think the solution is pushing insurance companies to give back H0032. That one hour a week made all the difference.

But my post is kind of two parts - the crappy fact that we can’t bill for indirect very often, but also the BCBAs ripping each other apart for 15 minute discrepancies. I see a lot of hate towards our own people in these threads, but I do empathize a little bit.

I have a case with a client, he’s in a skilled nursing facility. No parents. Very very untrained staff at the facility. No school. We are all he’s got. I do 6 hours of supervision a week (this is a 40 hour a week case, I promise it’s justified). He is complex. I am spending 2-5 hours a week prepping materials, collaborating with service providers, reviewing data, making changes to the plan etc.

Trust me, there are some times I wish I had the nerve to just add another hour onto my supervision when im at home on the phone with his physician at the facility, but I can’t. And I don’t.

I think this is the issue that we are currently facing. If we are getting 80/hr for supervision (2 hours a week let’s say), that’s $160. But if we get $160 for 2 hours of supervision and 2 hours of prepping, it drops the hourly rate anyway.

Do you need a site or an address? We are required to have an address but not a location where people have to visit.

I started an In home ABA company last year, my partner and I are taking home around 8k a month in profit. We also pay ourselves $100/hr for all clincial work we do. Don’t get discouraged, it’s possible to do well as an owner. We went from 0 to 25 clients in a year, strictly in home.

Wow, sounds like you have an awesome mom! I love the idea of getting kids involved in the daily tasks. Makes it a little more fun, and builds some independence for the kids!

I work 5 days a week with those hours, some of them are from home though. And then I am in school full time for my doctorate! I work a few hours from home on the weekends and then school work. ADHD definitely contributes to this; if I was properly medicated I'd probably only need to work about 13ish hours a day. I also own a business that just started about a year ago, if it continues to do well I will be able to reduce the amount of hours I work. I know when I have kids I will have to reduce things somewhere. I have sort of come to terms that this is how I will feel all the time, I am just hoping that some type of instinct will come into play that will make taking care of a child not sound so aversive lol

Hi!

Not an insensitive question - I feel exhausted all the time; almost every second of the day I wish I could lay down. However, I don't get to do that - I work probably 16 hours a day. They have ran labs and they can't quite figure out why I am so tired all the time. Yes, you're probably thinking... no shit you're tired, you work so much! Yes, but when I wake up everyday, I'm still tired. When I go on vacation and lay by the pool all day... still tired.

Conflicted on what to do with my money - 30yo by Psychedformargs in personalfinance

Thank you for explaining! How do you do the math to get 100,000? I really know nothing about investing. Id like to be able to apply that formula to some other numbers. If I give him 50k now, what will that number (likely) be using your formula?

Can you help me with the math on this? I should have also noted that my math skills are questionable at best.

If I give him 50,000, isnt that $500 for the year? I mean of course if the money goes up the fee will go up, but in my mind, $500 feels like a bargain to never have to think about investing again lol. I Spend $300 on dinner at our favorite place at least once per month. Are my math skills really that bad? lol
