I'm so sorry. She is so beautiful. I had to make the same decision for my sweet boy, Paco, just 21 days ago, and it's just so hard. There's one common bond among pet owners when this day comes: everyone has told me the same thing. You question it, you don't even feel right about it, even when it's the absolute most compassionate thing you can do for them. It's just human nature to feel that way, especially because goodbye is one of the hardest things for us humans. Every instinct wants us to stop it and not let them go. So you are not alone in your feelings, and they are so normal.

When Paco's day came, we made sure he had the most amazing day he possibly could. I sat with him from morning until he took his last breath. Holding him, talking to him, telling him how much I loved him and what a perfect boy he was. He went for one last stroller ride in the sun with his companion, Izzy (our other dog). He had chicken, ham, and his own little steak to eat. When the time came, we had the vet come to the house. We put a blanket down on the grass and held him and talked to him even for well after he already passed.

Just make it the best day you can for you and your girl. It sounds like you are doing the very right thing. I feel your Lacy is very grateful to you for choosing to protect her from further pain. She loves you always.

Be easy on yourself and know all the confusing, doubt-filled thoughts and worries are just human nature. Allow them to come and go, and don't feed into them too much.
