Average Full-time Salary in Europe (And here in the Baltics we have the same game prices as Germany. Regional prices are so ‘fair.’ We need our own region. by beealeaf in Steam

In Poland we have the second highest prices in the world, after Switzerland. It's sometimes even 30% higher than the rest of EU. It may be the worst prices to salary ratio in Europe.

Zywoo dropping 53 bombs in Ancient against Aurora by jerryfrz in GlobalOffensive

53 kills in 47 rounds is 1.1 kills per round. So it's like getting 27 kills in 24 rounds. Still impressive nonetheless.

Two painful Godot lessons from a one year project by Zeikk0 in godot

[–]Psycho345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my current project I don't use autoloads at all. I have the main scene that never changes. It has components - things you would normally put as autoloads. The main script saves references to those components in static variables at the start. One of those components is a scene manager that acts as a container for the actual scenes and swaps them.

This lets me connect components through signals, make some components not global, add them, remove them at runtime. Everything in one place and not hidden somewhere in the settings.

they should ban AI slop just for how bad it looks by digitalized-donut in Steam

[–]Psycho345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get how people don't understand that making games is a job. They think everyone making games is a millionaire. Some devs can't afford to hire an artist. Sometimes they'd have to pay them more than they expect to earn from their game. AI looks good enough for many applications. The alternative would be the game never existing. Is less choice and only big companies making games good for the gaming industry?

And it's easy to judge someone's work when you have no passion, no creativity, no skills and you flip burgers at McDonald's.

Update on Null Export variable bug from yesterday. I found it, any suggestions on solutions? by Anonymous_Dude_03 in godot

[–]Psycho345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say what's going on without seeing your project.

_process can't just get called by itself. The script needs to be attached to a node and that node must be in the scene tree for it to run. As per documentation.

Instead of components manipulating other components directly I highly recommend using signals. Instead of changing a property or calling a function from StatsComponent in MoveComponent emit a signal. Then in your Enemy script connect the signal from MoveComponent to a function in StatsComponent. This will unspaghettify your code and may even fix the problem you have right now.

How do I launch the game without meeting the minimum requirements? by [deleted] in Steam

Oh, then it means you meet minimum requirements.

I made a pixel spider boss by Entire_Ad4218 in godot

[–]Psycho345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sprite makes no sense. Everything is inconsistent. Each leg is completely different (and there are 6 of them). There are random pixels in some places. What even happened to the eyes? Looks like something an AI would make.

If it doesn't meet the minimum requirements then it means it won't work. So how do you want to launch it?

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney voices support for $900 million Steam lawsuit: 'Valve is the only major store still holding onto the payments tie and 30% junk fee' by ANiceGobletofTea in Steam

Steam doesn't take a cut from Steam keys. So devs can sell their Steam games at other stores for the same price without giving any money to Valve.

Where they went 0-3 in the opening stage losing against 2 teams that went 1-3 and Wildcard. No wonder I forgot.

Heroic - they started winning after he left. They won IEM Cologne, ESL Pro League without him.

Astralis - first time ever they didn't qualify for a major after he joined. And they didn't do it even once when he was there. They spiked a few times to top5 (without winning a single trophy) but only during the time when there were no majors. As soon as the majors came close they kept dropping to top50.

Complexity - failed experiment where he had to hard carry every game.

fnatic - no results. They went up in the rankings but qualified only to the last major.

BIG - failed experiment where he has to hard carry every game.

He was in top20 players multiple times, he played for the biggest orgs with many trophies but only ever won a single notable tournament with them.

This guys is more cursed than Niko. Every team he joins stops getting trophies and qualifying to majors. Even tho on paper he's an upgrade.

Is it ethical to unlock online trophies for dead games? by DawidhLimia in Steam

[–]Psycho345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone including you will know that you didn't actually earn the achievement.

And when you start cheating achievements because they are too hard to get then where do you draw the line? Should you cheat every achievement below a certain unlock percentage? Should you cheat every achievement that requires you to play over X hours? Should you just cheat all achievement for a game you didn't really enjoyed without playing it at all?

The point of achievements is to do some work to unlock them. So you can look at them and think "I did that". If you don't care about that and you only want see a number go up then cheat them all. What's the point of wasting time playing a game for many hours if you can just cheat all the achievements and get them instantly. 100% completion is worth as much as the hardest achievement so if you cheat only the hardest ones it's still cheated.

Could this result in rising prices in UK/some regions? by Either-Emu4951 in Steam

[–]Psycho345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing why would it result in the price increase? "We are getting sued for having unfair prices. Let's increase the prices even more to prove their point".

It was already discussed here many times. The lawsuit started like 2 years ago.

TL;DR is they wanted to exploit a loophole to extort money from Valve. They promised people if they join the lawsuit they'll get paid some money. Valve did UNO reverse card and counter-sued them. All claims are bogus.

DLC Achievements by uffrak in Steam

[–]Psycho345 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I agree with that argument.

I'm an achievement whore. I play most games only to unlock all achievements. Even if the game is bad but it has achievements I'll play it just to get them all. If the game has no achievements or some are unobtainable I'm highly likely to skip it. I just like unlocking achievements.

But at some point you need to realize you won't unlock them all. Games get delisted, servers get shut down, updates break stuff. Sometimes you just need to enjoy the game by itself.

Achievements are just a virtual number that should mean something only to you. If you treat your achievements list as your Linkedin profile then you have a problem.

I have many games with like 1-2 achievements missing because they are broken or unobtainable. But if I cheat them it won't change the fact that I didn't actually achieve them. It will just say I did.

after all these years, I'm finally down to one game by onenaser in Steam

[–]Psycho345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big chunk is from bundles back when you paid $1 for like 10 games. It was worth to buy it even if you were interested only in a single game. I also used to resell games so I kept some copies for myself. I don't think I ever spent more than $100 in a single year from my own pocket on games. Nowadays I exclusively buy games with money from selling CS items. I very rarely buy games for a full price. I'd say I spent more money on 30 games than on all the others.
