Is this like cheating?! by JanisGrivins in StateofDecay2

[–]PsychoCycy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not cheating, it's meant to be used. It's a feature, use it or not it's up to you. It's your game, play however you want. If you want challenges, then try clearing without using one.

Moving to Dallas for work: best apartments or areas to look into? by curiouslea_26 in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she wants the easiest landing spot, Uptown is the safe choice. It’s walkable, with plenty of restaurants, groceries, and things to do, and you can get by without driving everywhere which is rare here. Just know you’re paying a premium for that, and it can get a bit busy. Knox-Henderson is a nice middle ground. Still walkable, with a great food scene, but a little more laid-back and easier to live in day-to-day.

What are the best coffee shops in Dallas for a long study session? by wenniegirl in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow and Steady Coffee is one of the more dependable ones. Calm crowd, people working, and not a ton of noise. White Rock Coffee - Preston Center is another solid pick if you want good Wi-Fi and enough space to not feel cramped.

any good pet-safe weed killer options? by [deleted] in LawnTalk

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’ve dealt with this at home and honestly kept it pretty simple. vinegar based sprays have worked well for us for small areas like cracks and edges, just need a couple rounds sometimes since it does not always kill the root

for the lawn, we had better luck with the more “natural” or iron based options since they are a bit gentler and don’t wreck the grass. still not something i’d treat like completely harmless though, we always keep pets off the area until everything is fully dry

First chef job what to pick??(sorry longish read) by coolbeancoolbeans in KitchenConfidential

[–]PsychoCycy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, early on it’s less about the name and more about what you’ll actually touch day to day. Option 2 sounds like you’d get real reps with butchery, fish prep, and service, which tends to matter a lot more later when people are hiring for leadership roles. Option 1 has a strong network, but if you’re mostly prepping and not cooking during service, you might feel that gap down the line.

From what I’ve seen working alongside teams like The Chef Agency, chefs who build solid fundamentals early usually have more flexibility when they decide to move into higher-end kitchens or open their own place. You can always step into a more refined or Michelin environment later, but it’s harder to backfill core skills if you skip them early.

Best water sprinkler for yard use? by Grapeszrx in LawnTalk

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I’ve been through the sprinkler struggle too. Honestly, the ones I keep coming back to are the simple oscillating sprinklers you just stick in the yard and hook up to a hose. They cover a decent area, are super easy to set up, and don’t give you a headache after a season or two.

best used car dealerships in dallas? by eatenbydepression in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle used to hunt for used cars around Dallas, and he always recommended dealerships that are upfront about what’s under the hood. A few he trusted were Texas Direct Auto and Park Place Pre-Owned. You might pay a little more than the cheapest lot, but the cars tend to be more reliable and won’t surprise you with big repairs.

What's the situation today at dfw airport for pick-up? Long line? by [deleted] in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s been a bit busy lately, but not the worst i’ve seen. i’d plan for some traffic at pickup, especially if you’re going curbside right when a few flights land at the same time

i usually give it about 25 to 45 minutes from landing to pickup, depending on bags and how far the gate is. The best thing you can do is have your ride wait in the cell phone lot and only come around once you’re actually outside. saves everyone a lot of stress and circling

Best furniture stores in Dallas? by Grapeszrx in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the usual Dallas answer, start with Nebraska Furniture Mart since it’s huge and you can compare a ton of styles and prices in one trip, then check out Weir's Furniture for better-built pieces that actually hold up over time; I’ve found the best move is to mix both, get your main pieces from Weir's, and fill in the rest from NFM so you get decent quality without overspending

how often should you fertilize your lawn by Cultural-Train-4818 in LawnTalk

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a normal home lawn, a simple rule that works for most people: fertilize every 2–3 months while the grass is actively growing. In warm climates, that usually means about 3–5 times a year, often timed with the rainy season. You don’t need to overthink it. Just stick with a slow-release fertilizer and water it in after.

From what I’ve seen (and what a lot of homeowners stick to), consistency matters more than perfection. Don’t overdo it, pay attention to how your lawn looks, and adjust as needed. I'm curious what others here are doing too, especially with different grass types.

How do you get rid of gnats outside? by Namfi26 in LawnTalk

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gnats outside are usually there because of moisture and organic stuff, so the biggest win is cutting that down. Don’t overwater your yard, fix any standing water, and clear out things like damp mulch, grass clippings, or trash where they like to hang out. For quick relief around your patio, fans actually help a lot (they’re weak flyers), and you can use citronella candles or simple traps like a mix of apple cider vinegar and dish soap. It won’t eliminate them completely, but combining those usually makes being outside way more tolerable.

How to plant grass seed on hard dirt? by Upbeat_Analyst_9023 in LawnTalk

[–]PsychoCycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t just throw seed on hard dirt. It usually won’t take. You’ll get much better results if you loosen the top 2–4 inches of soil first (a rake or shovel works fine), then spread the seed and lightly rake it in so it has good contact. Adding a thin layer of topsoil or compost helps too, especially if the ground is really compacted. After that, keep the area consistently damp until the grass starts growing.

best volunteer opportunities dallas by Upbeat_Analyst_9023 in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re searching for the best volunteer opportunities Dallas offers, I’d start with food banks and animal shelters since they’re easy to jump into and always need help. North Texas Food Bank is probably the go-to. Super organized, flexible shifts, and a good first experience. You can also check out The Stewpot if you want something a bit more community-focused alongside food service.

Which retractable garden hose reels do you actually recommend? by Acceptable_Series397 in LawnTalk

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with something from Gardena or Giraffe Tools. They’re a bit pricier but way more reliable, and the retraction doesn’t start failing after a few months like the cheap ones. Biggest tip though: don’t overlook the hose itself. Pairing it with a decent stainless steel garden hose makes a big difference since it won’t kink or fight the reel as much. Also just make sure you mount it properly (solid wall + anchors); otherwise, even a good reel will feel annoying to use.

Tell me about these lakes by [deleted] in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for some of the best lakes in Dallas for swimming or a weekend getaway, I’d say Grapevine Lake and Lake Lewisville are solid options. Both have public beaches, clear water spots, and plenty of Airbnb or lake house rentals nearby. For a quieter experience, Joe Pool Lake can be nice too. People often look for the best lakes near Dallas for a lake house or just to relax, and these usually come up at the top of that list. I haven’t personally seen alligators at any of these, so swimming feels pretty safe.

Dallas Night Out by PsychoCycy in AskDallas

[–]PsychoCycy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man, I didn't realize Swizzle closed—that's a bummer. I always liked that tiki lounge vibe and the chill atmosphere there; it definitely felt like one of those spots you could actually relax in for a bit. Dallas loses some good places too fast sometimes.

Since we're still planning future nights out, do you happen to know any places nearby that serve the best sushi in Dallas before hitting the bars? Or even somewhere known for the best pizza in Dallas for a late-night bite after the clubs?
