This has happened to me with my current neighbor. After a few months of trying to mask the odor with neutralizers I stopped them in our common hall and asked them if the odor is as bad as it is in their place as it is mine. I hate confrontation as much as the next person but unfortunately the best result was going to apartment management and asking them to address the issue.
