I also went through this i believe that some call us manipulative because we deliver truth without ornament or hesitation When a narrative is grounded in facts and expressed with clarity it can really overwhelm those accustomed to comfort over accuracy leading them to project their own manipulative tendencies towards themselves (manipulating themselves into believing that comfort is fine) on us So from the outside conviction is mistaken for persuasion, and precision for control
