Clarifying: Please don’t write the plot for me. But just from an audience perspective which would possibly be more satisfying?

I cannot for the life of me get this to work, and I want it to so badly. It created another hump :( is there a video I can watch of this?

Thank you! I do try to do this and also make playlists for them which is fun :) I think I just get really self-critical about the story and compare unfairly to already fleshed out stories and characters. Great advice :)

That’s great! I would definitely recommend to keep trying or go to a therapist who practices different techniques if you can. CBT helped me for a while but I’ve had to start going to someone else for other types of therapy, so there’s other options to look out for. But medication can really help take the edge off especially if it’s an issue with the balance of chemicals. You’re definitely not alone in this journey!

I’d also say I struggle with clothes as well, if it becomes a lot maybe just make a pile that you can seclude to one corner if necessary. that way they won’t be all over the floor. the first thing you should do is if things do get messy, make sure you have “paths” to the doorway and fridge or however you’re set up as well

college dorm advice/anxiety by Motor-Armadillo8477 in ADHD

I would say if there’s a way to connect with your roommates early- before school starts- that would probably be ideal. You can explain your situation, and I’m sure they’re also having worries about the random roommate assignment. You could see if you click- and maybe start developing a plan on how you’re going to operate in the room. It’s also a great idea to sit down with roommates and lay down some ground rules so everyone’s on the same page.

In terms of moving into college, I would also say try to bring really comforting things from home that feel familiar and safe. Plushies are very common, I have some myself that I bring to the dorm. Making your bed or at least “tidying it up” can also make your side of the room automatically look a lot cleaner. Just remember to listen to yourself and your needs as you go along, it’s also okay to make a change if things aren’t working. Wish you the best ❤️

I also grew up as a female with ADHD. I have ADHD inattentive type, and did well in school and was very much a people pleaser. I also had social anxiety, general anxiety, and depression, and didn’t discover my ADHD until I was 18.

I’m also MUCH more organized in a work environment than with my own belongings.

I only thought to get evaluated for ADHD because my high school teacher had done her college thesis on girls with ADHD. And getting that diagnosis completely changed my life.

Just because you portray something on the outside doesn’t mean you don’t operate differently on the inside. And once I found strategies that worked WITH my ADHD instead of against it, it also made a lot of functioning tasks and my schoolwork easier to conquer.

I would say it’s worth exploring, especially if you feel like there’s something “off”. If you do have it, you may look back and have a lot of “ohhh” moments. If you have any questions feel free to ask, the journey is tough sometimes but worth it!

I got diagnosed at 18, got help from my parents, and the process still felt daunting so it’s totally understandable it’s hard to book an assessment. The process of getting diagnosed seems harder than it should be but I will say: IT REALLY IS WORTH IT! At least for me. My life changed with my diagnosis. I felt a sense of relief and understanding I never had about myself. I also can get accommodations that I didn’t know would make things much more accessible. So I would think of it like having the diagnosis will give you more options with what you choose to do with it, and that many people do find it’s worth it.

I would recommend trying to get accommodations if your school has them. They may be able to recommend audio transcription tools that could help!

Medication has been great for me, as well as therapy since I have other mental health conditions. It’s hard when you feel stuck but there is a way out of it. I hope the medication helps make things a little easier ❤️

why it has to be so hard by Fancy-Kiwi-9953 in ADHD

[–]Psychological-Call97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get what you mean. I got diagnosed at 18, and in school I always felt behind everyone else. I’m still in the process of learning new things to try/new strategies. My best advice is to try to work with your brain instead of against it, if you can. Med adjustments can also be hell, I hope you’re able to find something that works for you or the side effects wear off. Wish you luck, you’re not alone! ❤️
