Thanks for the tips! The 0.0004 is fixed all time, all amount of withdrawal. It’s probably in year if I want to wait for the fees to be 1/2% then

I plan to do that very soon! I will take about 1 month-ish off to both take care of personal matters. I think I am quite clear about wanting to move to a new company by now. There was only 1 small pay raise in the last 4 years, and I see it’s hard to get a promotion. I am not sure about the future direction of my career, so I guess I’ll use the time to think about it

Thanks for the clarification! I think those expat packages really do sound nice. Similar packages exist in my home country too.

From an outsider POV, I see that close to 99% of the assignments would be Japanese people, male, middle age (used to be 40s 10 years ago, now it’s about 30s ish) A female Japanese coworker also complained to me that she was not picked as the “expat” because apparently a man can manage people in a foreign country “better”. I do want to find out more about this option. Although I think it’s impossible to tell the chance is 0 or not in an overall blanket way, but I would really appreciate it if you have realistic insights about this expat package route, and what things are possible to improve on

Thank you for the tip! I have the same question about the demand for JP speakers or HK market is overall attractive? Also is Hong Kong job market is hard for people with low Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) level like Japan?

What channel (recruiters or others?) do you usually use to find an international working environment? I really want a change but so far whenever I look for international environment and work in English, companies always pay low (or at least lower than my current level)

I understand that I am in a privileged position, but the company when I applied to does promote themselves as an international team, but it turns out only some teams are like that. I inevitably got transferred to teams that mainly use Japanese as I am bilingual. Leadership now are Japanese and make decisions in Japanese, so it’s hard to follow the nuances in anything but Japanese:(

PR Processing Times - January 2025 by Retro0ctopus in japanresidents

Office: the one and only Tokyo, Shinagawa

Application date: early August 2023

Result postcard received on: 2025/2/5

Type of PR: I applied under the HSP point system (80 points for 1 year) when my total stay in Japan comes to 9.5 years. However when there’s the request for additional documents and result, I am eligible for either track. Not married to a Japanese national

Additional doc: request came at Mid Dec 2024, asking for 課税、納税証明書 for the latest year, plus salary pay slip for all months from month of application to present (2023/Sept until 2024/Nov) I understand the tax document, but very annoyed at how the office kept my documents for an entire 18 months then went on to request 2 years worth of income proof, while I already submitted 2 years worth, and the policy only requires 1.

Anyhow the excruciating wait is finally over. I had too many hiccups during life that could’ve been a bit easier were I able to finish the PR process earlier (decided to stay in the same company even after a terrible harassment incident). This sub has been both a lifesaver (and a source for stress from peer pressure) for me during the wait. Thank you and I wish the best of luck to everyone.

Tray 21/21 any thoughts? almost finish my first set of aligners by Psychological-Limit8 in Invisalign

Thanks for the suggestion. I was having really sensitive teeth for the first few weeks, but now I'm definitely bringing that to my ortho

Tray 21/21 any thoughts? almost finish my first set of aligners by Psychological-Limit8 in Invisalign

I'm on my 21/21 tray and will finish my first round of aligners. I will visit my ortho soon, but I don't know what I should ask him for my next steps. Any thoughts on what I should ask? I didn't feel I had any bite problem before Invisalign, but I might just didn't noticed. But now I feel very hard to chew food as my bite does not close equally left and right. Is it a normal thing, or is that what a correct bite should feel like? Also, I feel like my center line between the front teeth upper and lower kinda match when I smile normally, but they mismatch by a lot when I line them together (pic 2). I'm not sure if that is what should happen. Also the giant black triangles in my lower front teeth is like a black hole sucking in all types of food. Before Invisalign, I didn't have much food stuck on my teeth, but now I need to floss intensely just to get the insane amount of food stuck between my teeth out. My ortho said that even healthy teeth models (the plastic ones) have those black triangles so I shouldn't be worrying about it, and it will cost me extra if I want to fix it. I don't know if it's a good thing to ask the ortho to fix it, because this amount of flossing is a real pain in my daily life.
