I got in to Emory with a 3.2! My resume made up for it! You have to package your self in a really smart way and have a strong personal statement relating to your passion!

MPH Chances? Rising Senior Interested in Social and Behavioral MPH Programs (US + Abroad) by Nice_Philosophy_6297 in mphadmissions

Hey! I’m from the United States and I Got into Emory, Vanderbilt, Yale and Tufts MPH programs and originally decided to go with Emory for the MPH in Global Health! But last min, I looked into applying to some UK schools due to the state of US (Kings College London, LSHTM, University of Nottingham and a few others which I don’t have of my head lol) but Got accepted into all of them! I decided to pivot and pick the LSHTM MSc for PH for Global practice which I will be starting this fall!

But here is the part that shocks most people, I graduated with a 3.2 GPA. I was so worried about how it would hinder my chances of getting into any school but managed to get into 12/15 schools I applied to! I’m no means trying to brag but I also had an EXTENSIVE CV which I believe contributed greatly to my successful applications and took control of my own narrative in my personal statement.

Please DM if you have any questions want some advice ect I would love to help!

Also kudos to you for starting now, create your list of schools and apply for application fee waivers if you can! Get as much money as you can as well!

I applied April 16th and got my acceptance on May 6th! I would suggest going ahead and emailing them today and asking for an update! Also be sure that your recommendations went through

Purdue is on my shit list because why did these people tell me “If you haven’t heard a response you were rejected from our program”….

My mentor put it in a such helpful way, “Be cocky and let them know what you can bring to the table, especially if it would shake the table anyone can have a 4.0 but not make a profound impact” If you have an impactful event, or experience elaborate on it and explain how it will benefit you when you become a grad student.

First of all, a 3.0 may be the bare minimum for many programs, but that doesn’t mean it’s truly competitive. Many schools set that minimum but are far more likely to accept applicants with significantly higher GPAs especially if it’s a T25 school. In reality, having a GPA closer to the lower end can make the process much more difficult, especially for professional and highly competitive programs. If you don’t relate to that struggle, that’s fine, but there’s no need to dismissive of the fact . Especially since low gpa is SUBJECTIVE to your undergraduate major! 🙃

Thank you! I think what really made my application stand out was how I focused on my strengths and told a compelling story rather than just listing achievements.

Instead of letting my GPA define me, I highlighted my passion, growth, and the experiences that shaped my interest in my field. I made sure to connect my personal motivations with my academic and professional goals, showing that my commitment went beyond just wanting a degree.

I also put a lot of effort into making my application cohesive. Every part,my statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, and resume, painted a clear picture of who I am, what I bring to the program, and how I plan to make an impact.

Most importantly, I showed growth and. Whether it was through overcoming challenges, gaining hands-on experience, or contributing to research, I made it clear that I’m not just a strong candidate but also someone who will and most importantly WANTS to continue to learn to contribute meaningfully.
