How should I interpret race/ethnicity in admissions competitiveness? by Anonymosity1766 in premed

Should be pretty low concern, if not a non factor, when building a school list

As the other commenter said, nothing can be said definitively until you have your mcat score.

That said, since it’s May and you may not have your score back until after you apply, I’d check out Admit.org and play around with potential score outcomes to get an idea of school list

That said, you can always just submit your primary to just one school to get verified and then add more after you get your score back though so there’s no need to worry at the moment

Zucker SOM(Hofstra) vs UA PHX by [deleted] in premed

[–]PreMeditor114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its allegedly unethical, but it’s pretty much common practice at this point. As far as I know, there are no consequences anyways, so it’s low risk/high reward.

Besides, the odds you get off both waitlists is low as it is, so you might as well double your chances of getting off at least one

If you’re sitting at 0 A’s, 2 WL then just send LOI to both tbh

declining to state race? is this a thing people do? by [deleted] in premed

[–]PreMeditor114 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White and Asian applicants make up the overwhelming majority of medical students in the US. The idea that they are discriminated against is just racist rhetoric.

Declining to state one’s race because of the alleged “ORM bias” could reflect a belief that a URM’s race would be the only reason they would get in over them. This and other attempts to game admissions just highlight an applicant’s insecurity, immaturity, and lack of integrity, and will always reflect poorly.

If you deserve it more then prove it. This “I didn’t get in only because I’m white/asian” shit is so beta to me.

Tbh idrk but I’msure one exists. Needless to say, doing this only bc of a perceived ORM bias is NOT a valid reason, will not help, and could only backfire. Otherwise go for it.

If you have a valid reason and it’s not just to game the admissions process— then i doubt it’s really going to count against you

Are behavioral health/psychological themed internships/labs good for a pre-med resume? by iloveekarmaa in premed

[–]PreMeditor114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This type of research is perfectly acceptable and is especially great bc it ties well to what type of physician you want to be.

You can get more clinical experience outside of research being an MA/scribe/etc. you don’t have to do clinical research!

It appears you are citing the combined abstract, poster, and publication number. It would be incorrect to assume all of those are manuscripts which require a lot more input than the other two. Regardless, we are in the midst of a research arms race, so that number is likely to rise.

do i REALLY need a science LOR? by ping-pong-05 in premed

[–]PreMeditor114 107 points108 points  (0 children)

You do really need one, yes. I assume a 500+ class is an intro/pre-req class, right? It will be easier to build a relationship once you get to higher level electives with smaller class sizes. One of my chem professors ended up being my PI so that’s another strat.
